Why does everything cost 20k in the US Do most people make a million per year lol
Well, building materials are expensive for one. Like, I had to have my roof replaced in the last year or two, and it was $6k, and they only ripped and replaced the plywood, barrier and shingles. They didn’t have to worry about cleaning out organic matter, structural issues involved with opening up a wall and removing shit, or the complications of dealing with utilities in wall.
When you factor all the potential issues in, especially if it was a large infestation, costs can add up quickly.
Kiddo, this is good news! We can finally be bees!
I made a steak.
A steak!?
Was this an experiment in remote parenting or how did they not notice the bees for months?
I don’t know about bees, but last year I noticed wasps crawling in and out a hole on my balcony. I did not think much of it, but noticed the home owner, just to be safe.
Well they send a beekeeper, and that guy explained to me that now it is quiet, but within 4 weeks he expect there to be about 20000 wasps in there, it would be getting really loud and they would have started to find an exit into my apartment. Apparently they multiply really fast.
They are actually relatively quiet once inside their nest.
When I was a kid I told my mom about something scary out the window. The didn’t believe me either. Turned out someone was on the side of the house stealing parts off some kind of electrical box.
I don’t remember this. I was told about it later.
I DO remember being afraid of windows until I was an adult.
Based child Linux user /s lol
Luckily Linux works so well nowadays, huh?
That is a very young age to experience not being believed by parents. The poor kid, I hope she’s not traumatised. It’s surprising the things that can mark us.
I’m one of those kids. Either we’re over explaining people pleasers or the trauma turned us into monsters.
I think I know what you mean. That inner flurry can have a silent persistence that pushes us one way or the other, but doesn’t let us rest. Have you found anything that helps?
Not yet :(
Forgive me for offering unsolicited advice, but one-to-one therapy with a psychodynamic trained (or other modality) can really help.
In parallel, meditation can help to overcome a certain amount of the uncomfortable feelings. I can share an inspiring documentary with you in the latter.
Please share the documentary.

It was seeing this that showed me how meditation helps even the mosts hardened of people. This method is also free to learn and free to attend worldwide.
Not everyone can tolerate the stillness of meditating. But besides the exceptions, it has helped a lot of people. If you’ve any questions afterwards I’ll do my best to answer.
Thank you!
Well, children aren’t very good at telling the difference between real and fantasy. At least I’m fairly sure my nephew isn’t actually Iron Man. Believing everything they say would be gullible at best, stupid at worst. And seriously, this won’t be traumatizing because adults didn’t believe the kid.
Neither of us can say that for sure because we don’t have the necessary details. Internalisation is no myth, and it’s very hard to work with when kids are pre-verbal or have low vocabulary. There are some good books on child (and adult) psychology that explain it better than I will here.
There are some good books on child (and adult) psychology that explain it better than I will here.
But there’s this other book that says to ignore them and beat them when they’re too annoying to ignore. It’s called the bibble or something. Jeezus wrote it.
Wah? Who’s this Jeezus person? Must’ve known my parents because… well I just want to smack 'em upside the head.
I think kids usually start speaking earlier than that.
Not enough to diagnose their inner state with a standard therapist.
N=1 and all, but my son was quite capable of explaining, clearly and in detail, his inner life at three. He’s on the spectrum and highly intelligent, so that may make him an outlier.
(Both sons did fall for me calling saffron “monkey fur” well into grade school though.)
Why would you need to pay for bee removal? Local beekeepers will do it for free in my neighborhood.
Got to open up the walls, clean the honey residue, removing the hive, and rebuild the walls. Getting rid of the bees is the easiest part.
Yeah but that’s $20k? I guess 60k bees is a lot
Walls and shit are expensive, yeah.
$20K to open up a single wall and put it back up is not reasonable, even in a high COL area
until it is a load bearing wall and you need specialists to make sure your house doesn’t collapse when replacing it. Also depends on where the house is - if the area is hard to get to with heavy machinery, costs can explode easily.
Edit: Just read the article. The bees started in the attic and went deep into the walls - they had to remove 45kg (100 pounds) of honeycomb out of the walls and had to do three extractions to remove the bees. They fucked up the electrical wiring too (which was probably not limited to the wall with the nest). It also was 20000$ // 16000£.
BBC would suggest UK, so £20k. But also our walls are often solid rather than wood and plasterboard.
Still sounds a lot unless they were taking over like half the house.
£20,000 is more than $20,000, I’m quite surprised it cost that much though, I had my entire roof ripped off, in a storm and the cost came in at £7,000 to fix and that cost included electrical work since I wanted the attic wired for lighting again.
I just used an online conversion calculator and $7000 gbp is Iess than $9500 USD. $9500 USD seems low for an entire roof replacement plus electrical work for my little corner of the States, (unless I hire Bob’s Roof Repair as his first client and get 5% off for leaving a 5-star review on Google before the work is completed).
£20,000 is more than $20,000
Tell that to most online shops…
suckers living in the city.
I just had wasps burrow their way into the side of my house and chew down through the ceiling of my first floor bathroom. That very particular and unnerving scratching noise is fucking burned into my brain.
33¢ per bee is crazy.
Who’s their bee guy, amirite?
Back in the day it used to only be 5¢ per bee
AND they let you keep the honey.
I once bought a mousetrap with my pocket money and caught the mouse, my parents didn’t believe was in my bedroom.
I can tell this wasn’t written by bees.
maybe she should have said it was 60000 bees then?
Maybe she should have said it was a $20,000 bill.
Paying $20,000? I’ll take my chances with the bees.
You can have an actual monster removed for that kind of money
I dontnhave any VEOs living in my walls though
I used to hear scratching in my bedroom walls at night when I was a kid.
My dad said it was probably red squirrels but to me, it was demons trying to claw their way through a portal.
Well? Which was it??
Rip and tear little one
The other option was a data centre next door.
They’re in the walls… oh god… they’re in the walls!
The monsters are real, and they are
