Worse, creationists use the “watch maker’s paradox” as evidence of creation. Same idea but watch parts in a washing machine.

The funny thing is, if you truly have infinite monkeys, it doesn’t matter if they’re using it correctly or not. There is an infinite amount of them.
If you have an infinite amount of monkeys and they’re all typing truly randomly, then an infinite number of them would get it correct on the first try. Which is sort of weird to think about lol.

This meme is not turning it into a men versus women thing. It’s mocking people who do by calling them clowns.
Obviously my past experiences have made me who I am, but plenty of neurotypical people are unique and have skills too. I genuinely believe I’d be the same person I am today but “better” if I didn’t have ADHD. I don’t want to sound like a doomer, but it’s genuinely difficult for me to do basic things. The narrative that disabilities are actually super powers is deeply troubling to me. At times it can even feel like toxic positivity.
I’m not trying to say you’re doing anything wrong by describing your ADHD as such. I don’t see a problem with it. I view it similar to the way some people who are deaf don’t want to be able to hear. Nobody can dictate your experience to you. You know what is best for you. Individuals with ADHD saying things like that don’t bother me. What bothers me is when neurotypical people do it or it’s a trend.
I got into an argument with someone about this before. They were using the idea of hyper focus as being a super power. If the planets align and I’m able to hyper focus on what I need to be doing at the time and somehow I don’t need to be doing anything else then sure, it’s a super power. More often it’s me being unable to stop thinking about something I’m fixated on for days. Losing sleep while I think about it. It distracting me from work. It distracting me from friends. Only to just suddenly leave making me wonder why I’m not interested in the thing I had been obsessed with for so long.

JackbyDev@programming.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?English1·7 days agoI get that. I tend to use dark mode, especially “OLED dark” on my phone because sometimes I’m on it in bed and don’t want to disturb my wife as much (though they are a heavy sleeper).
JackbyDev@programming.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?English1·7 days agoI’ve used Windows, Mac, and Linux and I can confidently say they all have strange shortcomings in unique ways. I think people who primarily use one or two of them get blind to things like that with the ones they’re familiar with so problems like that in other ones really stick out.

JackbyDev@programming.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there any active, general purpose forums that still have a community?English7·7 days agoI understand that Lemmy can be viewed as an answer to this question, but it’s not for me. I’m looking for an actual forum, with a sense of community.
The community here is small enough that I’ve started recognizing names.
The whole decentralization aspect of the Feidverse seems great to prevent enshittification, or to prevent a billionaire from buying and tanking the place, but I don’t really see it ever appealing to normal, non tech savvy people.
I don’t understand what the gripe is. You’re already here. The only nuisance is picking an instance. After that, you don’t need to worry about it.
JackbyDev@programming.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?English2·7 days agoFor me it depends on the program. For GitHub I prefer high contrast light mode. Also, I like that GitHub’s high contrast modes aren’t ugly.

The thought experiment is about how wrist watches are incredibly complex and hand crafted machines so if you dissemble one and put all the parts in a clothes dryer you won’t get a watch back. (I believe given infinite time and random movements you would eventually get a watch.)
