Salaries in the USA are traditionally much higher than in other countries.

We also tend to pay less taxes.

Then we pay a fuck ton for everything else AND we’re like the cutting room floor for shitty capitalist policies that will be shipped over to yall in a decade or so.

That said a nearly 200k/yr salary on the coasts can leave you still struggling to make ends meet whereas 50k in the flyovers can have you sitting happy.

The USA is made up of so many little economies that show up to be one one big economy.

You’re thinking of mean average salaries. A greater percentage of Americans make minimum wage (or less) than Canadians, and Canadian minimum wage is higher.

There are a small group of rich people offsetting this notion of “Americans get less public services because they make sooo much more money”

No, I’m thinking of salaries for comparable roles.

I’m not really making any statement about the vast wealth inequality in the USA, beyond pointing out that 200k on the coasts can be scraping by while a quarter of that in the “heartland” can be comfortable.

I didnt push the notion that we get less because we make more, we get less … we also make more … they are not related excepting to pull down what “we make more” means.

Well, building materials are expensive for one. Like, I had to have my roof replaced in the last year or two, and it was $6k, and they only ripped and replaced the plywood, barrier and shingles. They didn’t have to worry about cleaning out organic matter, structural issues involved with opening up a wall and removing shit, or the complications of dealing with utilities in wall.

When you factor all the potential issues in, especially if it was a large infestation, costs can add up quickly.
