I really don’t want this to come off as rude but you do not know what you’re talking about.

When they drill for oil and natural gas in the North sea it doesn’t go into some special “only for the UK” reserve, it’s private companies doing the drilling so they will sell on the global market. So more drilling of natural gas in the North sea will do diddly squat for the prices in the UK.

Well what happened here was;
Everyone wanted a solution to the problem.
Experts told the government what the solution to the problem was.
The government did something completely different than nobody liked.
Everyone complained.
The government scraps the entire thing.
Everyone still wants a solution to the problem.

There seems to be this inability from the government both Labour and Conservative to just do a thing for the purposes of resolving a particular issue. Instead they always seem to try and make it into this one size fits nothing solution that will fail to tackle multiple issues including the original issue.

It’s like this social media ban for under 16s. That’s a good policy and I support it, but they’re implementation of it is insanely stupid, will cost loads of money, won’t work, and will violate the privacy of a bunch of adults. Instead of doing what the experts told them to do which was to mandate a law that required operating systems to have parental controls.

The monitor in that image is clearly not switched on and they do have blinds which you can see are partially closed. So im not convince this isn’t just somebody trying to be funny.

Not saying this isn’t a legitimate lawsuit or anything and that there aren’t safety concerns here because there are, but articles like this seem to be implying that interactions with AI drive people insane. But really it should just be that insane people have their irrational beliefs amplified by AI. I think it’s important to make the distinction.

We are 10 years away minimum from robotics being a viable technology. We’ve got the early alpha prototypes right now but look at how long it took to get to where they are. I remember watching YouTube videos 15 years ago about the atlas robot and it still isn’t commercially available.

Which government? SK hynix is a South Korean manufacturer, along with Samsung. This is one area the Trump administration can’t get its fingers involved.

I wouldn’t risk it. The AI market is full of SpaceX like companies, massively overvalued despite literally never making a profit and having no coherent business plan beyond crossing their fingers and hoping they create AGI.

It takes 5 or 6 years minimum to step up a fab, the AI market is so unstable it could be gone by next week. If you want to cash in on this particular gold rush you need to already own the pickaxes.

Doing damage control to try and get the general public back on side when the AI bubble inevitably bursts.

Don’t worry it’s not going to happen. They’re just after investor money then they’ll vanish.

Even if they actually build this, a very small area of the planet is going to be imperceptibly brighter for 35 seconds.

Oh not this again. I agree the it sets a stupid precedent but the act itself is irrelevant.

Far apart from the fact that it’s only going to be over any given area of the earth for about a minute tops, but also pointless because it’s only 18 m wide, so you won’t be paying for sunlight, you’ll be paying for a random spec in the sky to be switched on.

This is all a giant con where they’re trying to get a bunch of investment money from idiots that don’t know basic physics but do have a lot of money. I’d actually put a reasonable amount of money on this never actually launching.

Yeah but the 0 point doing this unless you want to run AI models for some reason. These GPUs can’t do video game graphics so this isn’t a solution to the GPU shortage.

Well I don’t think they test for critical thinking skills on the application. Ability to successfully spell your own name on the first attempt probably elevates you to a high ranking position.

Not in this case though. What you’re talking about is sexual assault but these two are facing far more than just a few sexual assault charges (not that those aren’t serious either), including kidnap, false imprisonment, human trafficking, and money laundering.

The concern in sexual assault charges is always the possibility of false accusations. Sadly some people seem to try and use trumped up historical sexual assault accusations against people that they have a vendetta against, and it’s kind of hard for the other party to defend against. How do you prove you didn’t commit a crime 15 years ago when there’s no evidence either way?

Like all bad things that are happening at the moment it’s trump’s fault. They were arrested in Romania and were in a Romanian prison until Trump got involved and kept threatening things until the Romanian authorities released them.

They should have told Trump to spin on it, he wouldn’t have done anything.

It’s a very very old engine though. As funny as it is to put a pot on someone’s head I really hope the AI have a bit more brains in this one. It would also be nice if they could stall the interior of buildings inside the exterior so I don’t have to look at a loading screen whenever I open a door.

Proximity matters but only up to a point. The Islands aren’t that close to Argentina, I can’t remember what the exact limit is but under international law islands along to the country whose coastline is closest to them up to a distance of 10 nautical miles as long as there is no claim already in place. Of course that’s an international treaty which historically didn’t necessarily count, which is why you’ve got things like American Samoa and Hawaii.
