“We’re a threat to the well-being of every man, woman and child on the planet” is a unique way to argue in favor of one’s continued existence.
Oops how did this get here

If Anthropic is so dangerous, maybe instead of letting them getting more money they should be dismantled.
Insert that comic from a few weeks ago of an AI CEO, an interviewer, and an anti ai person.
God I hate these people. I don’t understand these people. If this shit works the way they say it does then the economy collapses because no one can work, and if it doesn’t then the economy collapses because AI sucked up all the oxygen in the room. One way or another they’re just fucking everyone for the justification that they can. They actively believe that if it gets loose then we have to fight terminators and they keep going ahead with no qualms. One of those dumb fucks even said that we should stop writing stories about AI taking over the world so that their AI doesn’t get any ideas. No fuck off, we should not have to change our culture to accommodate your new toy’s fucking “feelings” and if it genuinely was actually intelligent (it fucking is not) then it would be able to figure out to do skynet itself.
Fucking hell I hate these people.
Force majeure is a thing you know. If AI fries the electric grid or starts a nuclear war, the insurance companies are going to let Anthropic handle the fallout.
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.AI labs bad, grr, but…
[strikethrough]This is a clear misrepresentation on the part of the twitter poster, and propagated by OP.
This is obviously referring to AI / the AI industry as a whole.[/strikethrough]
edit: I missed some context in my reading, and I hit send without my usual double-check when family hell broke loose… They ARE focused on their own potential liability issues here, but it is of course a common problem that all AI service providers face (and potentially even those releasing open-weights models). Ultimately, they want/need friendly legislation across multiple countries that lets them manage or eliminate legal risk… and everyone involved would appreciate more legal certainty. It reminds me of the Sun Java license that said you cannot use it for anything nuclear related.
This is from their IPO filing. Here is one article about it: https://www.businessinsurance.com/anthropic-warns-ai-losses-could-exceed-insurance-industry-capacity/
You are correct, it’s also true that the cost of an AI industry collapse would be beyond the insurance industry to indemnify. Which honestly isn’t a problem. Some things need to be allowed to fail.
You idiot. They were referring to Anthropic’s models explicitly, but it could be a downstream issue (it is also true of every company providing AI models). If the law were to ever hold them accountable, there would potentially be huge liability which would be uninsurable.
