People say they Sid isn’t really a villain because he doesn’t actually know that the toys he tortures and kills are actually sentient. But the series never attempts to explain why toys pretend to be inanimate in the presence of humans. They commit to the act even when it puts them in immediate danger like when Woody almost let his head get crushed by an 18-wheeler. Even as they’re facing certain death as Sid prepares to blow them up, their instinct to remain inanimate outweighs any survival instinct and they remain completely motionless rather than making an attempt to escape or plead for mercy. Even Buzz, who genuinely thought that he was a real space ranger rather than a toy, instinctively understood that he must stop moving and talking when a human enters the room. They have no such fear of dogs or other animals, this behavior is limited only to humans as far as we can see.

The real horror movie would be a prequel that shows what humans did to toys to instill such an overpowering instinct to remain still whenever they’re present. What deeply generational trauma was inflicted on ancient toys that they still, to this day, become paralyzed with terror at the mere proximity of human beings?

This is like wrapping a whole argument about why there are sidewalks in the Cars movies where there aren’t any actual people. Why would there be sidewalks? Or are there car manufacturers operated by car characters cloning more of themselves off the assembly line as a means of reproduction?

That’s trying to cram reality into a fictional world. It’s not going to work. The whole point of this fantasy is that it is the way it is.

Oh man, Cars has a ton of unintended implications.

The Pope and Popemobile suggests that there is a Cartholic church and that there was an assassination attempt on the Pope at some point. This also implies that there was some kind of Jesusmobile that is worshipped by the church.

They show cars removing their tires to get through airport security which implies that there was a 9/11 style terrorist attack at some point. But that also raises the question of whether a plane intentionally crashed into the world trade center or if a car terrorist somehow took control of an innocent plane. That also implies there is a Car version of Islam.

The presence of Car Islam and Car Christianity would also imply that Car Judaism is a thing.

A character in the Planes movie mentions the rest of his squadron died in a battle against the Germans in World War II, which implies they also had two world wars, that there was a Car Hitler preaching about a Volkswagen master race, and possibly even a Holocaust against some make or model of car, or possibly Car Jews from the prior point.

The list goes on and on!

“Like most children, Andy Davis spent his days in an elaborate world of his own design. Grand adventures full of cowboys and space rangers, potato-folk and slinky dogs. But Andy’s about to learn what it’s like when the tables are turned and the player gets played with, here in The Twilight Zone.”

That could be an interesting premise though - like maybe a parent 3D prints a model toy of their child, but now the child-toy has a confused identity but also gets to play with “their” toys? Honestly, probably not great for a children’s movie.

My head canon is that it is a horror film, and ended at the incinerator. You can believe the “good” ending, but that’s Hollywood for you. We know how it went down.
