There’s a separate thread for the Senate elections, because that’s far, far easier to track than the House races and the Gubernatorial races.
Consider this thread open to everything else! House, Governor, state and local measures, everything else!
Polls start closing at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific. My plan is to be obsessively posting results as they come in.
Current standings:
US House of Representatives:
Republicans: 218
Democrats: 214
Vacant: 2
Independent: 1
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) resigned 04/14/2026.
Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL20) resigned 04/21/26.
Rep. Kevin Kiley (CA3) flipped from R to I in March, 2026.
Every seat is up for re-election with 218 necessary for a majority.
Update Current called races put the House at 238 D, 146 R, with 51 still undecided. As near as I can tell, all of the flips have been R->D. Not a single Republican flipped a Democratic seat.

Friend of mine noted how nice it is that Elmo Muskrat wasted all that money on the election.
Musk still proved that he’s a Trillion are willing to dump $400++ million into elections for the lulz.
It’s still a bad thing. Trillionare didn’t even waste 0.1% of his wealth on this election.
We need campaign finance reform, or at a minimum a concerted effort to punish Musk (and other Billionaires) who fuck with our elections.
So it seems we overthrew the government yesterday. Good job, everyone.
But we’ve still got two years of the shitstain, so it’s going to be tough for a while.
We also have to keep the same pressure on the Dem Congress we were putting on the MAGA Congress (or even more because that wasn’t enough either).
How many more DSA and generally anti-genocide politicians are in power now? Michigan even elected the anti-Fetterman in El-Sayed. The anti-genocide bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group, it DECIMATED AIPAC last night.
The pro-universal healthcare bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group. The people DECIMATED private healthcare funded Super PACs last night.
People need to understand we accomplished last night. We sent a message to the DNC that every Dem who defies their voter base can lose, no matter how much money they fight is with.
We CANNOT lose that energy
We also have to keep the same pressure on the Dem Congress we were putting on the MAGA Congress (or even more because that wasn’t enough either).
YES! For some reason, this is where everyone gets lost. We have these people talking about how voting Democrat won’t matter because they’re still not going to be effective, they’re not left enough, there’s no point in ever voting or performing your civic duty and that we should all give up and die.
But like, take the energy and anger you have against Republicans and apply that to the Democrats et. al. when they actually have some kind of power. NOW is the time to push for change. Lean on the old gaurd and show them what we want out of their party. We just showed that we’ll cut out the rotted growth of America if given the chance. Dems that don’t get the picture should be next.
The fight has ONLY begun.
What pressure…don’t act like Fascists or we throw the Fascists back in? In the end, there’s just another corrupt party in power stuffing its pockets.
Don’t act like fascists or we’ll primary your asses.
We proved with the DSA victories and El-Sayed that AIPAC and billionaire funding is nowhere near as effective as it once was.
You made me bark out a laugh, thank you.
“Overthrew the government” you kill me
Credit where credit is due, it’s a line from The West Wing. ☺️
Incredible that with a Fascist government destroying the economy, there are still going to be hundreds of Republicans elected.
Susan Collins has been defeated. Looks like Maine voters finally wised up.
Will Trump say that the elections were stolen today? Or tonight?
Will he wait a whole day even? No, that’s crazy. Tonight at the latest
Headline in the Hill says he’s blaming Fox news.
I can’t believe I’m about to go to sleep and have an actual, real chance of waking up to a blue Texas. It was mythical, intangible, a flight of fancy. And now I might see it with my own two eyes. I know I shouldn’t have even looked but I just couldn’t resist.
Abbot just conceded! You can go to sleep now!
GTFO!!!
And Ohio just got called!
Dafuq is this feeling‽
Is this hope?
Is this what hope feels like?
It’s been so long…
Like hell I can. No way.
Video of the concession here:
Typical for Abbot. You know, he never would stand up for Texas.
Talarico and Hinojosa have already won.
Of the 10 already-confirmed House seats, 9 are Dems. And I’m seeing a lot of light blue squares in Texas (uncalled yet but leaning Dem).
Governor, AG, LG, RR commish - wild. I’m elated. I didn’t think it possible, even in hopeful years past. That LG get is massive due to our ridiculous state lege. Anything else majority-wise is icing at this point. I know it’s not a universal rebuke across the country, even as things are going well. But I didn’t in my wildest dreams expect the absolute trouncing in the state. All TX Supreme Court seats went blue by good margins too.
I had always heard about the mythical ‘Blue Texas’, but I didn’t think it would come like this! Prophecy fulfilled.
How’s your state legislature looking?
Can you explain why a blue Texas is good? Like people moved from California to leave the bad policies behind but are voting in California policies?
Can you explain why a blue Texas is good?
sure, here is handy guide:
fascists - bad
not fascists - goodUsing the word fascist for not fascist things makes it less meaningful
'The Trump regime continues to attack all the independent institutions in this country that have traditionally served as buffers against tyranny – universities, non-profits, lawyers and law firms, the media, science and researchers, libraries and museums, the civil service and independent agencies – threatening them with extermination or loss of funding if they do not submit to its oversight and dictatorial demands. Trump even instructed the Department of Justice to investigate ActBlue, the platform that handles the fundraising for almost all Democratic candidates and the issues Democrats support. We are no longer Democrats or Republicans. We are either patriots fighting the regime or we are complicit in its tyranny. There is no middle ground. Trump is still actively destroying the economy. His proposed tariffs are still raising prices. His attacks on the Fed chief, Jerome Powell, persist in causing tremors around the world. Trump wants total power, even at the cost of our democracy and economy. His polls are plummeting yet many Americans are still in denial. “He’s getting things done!” some say. “He’s tough and strong!” Every American with any shred of authority must loudly and boldly explain the danger we are still in.

you forgot his own gestapo murdering people in the streets, running concentration camps and deporting us citizens into third world countries ignoring the court order telling him not to do so
What bad policies?
A significant number of republicans didn’t leave California. It looks like there are around 5 million there. Texas is estimated to have only 6 million republicans.
Not sure what youre on about but, just in case, California =/= Texas
Texas got a huge influx of Californians because California has horrible policies. Now Texas is “blue” which is “good” because… Moving states and voting for the same shit that ruined the state you moved from is ridiculously dumb.
I really like the policy of the government not actively trying to kill me.
So this seems like a good sign for that
How’s it actively trying to kill you
They sorta just came out and said it. They think we’re “unhumans” that need to be killed. We’re not real humans so the law can’t protect us. JD Vance waved around a manifesto saying conservatives need to load up their muskets and ignore the rules. A lot of us believe them when they say they want us to die.
Lmao. People left California because the cost of living is too high because so many people want to live there (and because the state government is too capitalist to do anything to make it affordable). So they went to Texas, where it’s cheap because no one wants to live there because it’s even more capitalist.

Cool gif I guess?
Do you think I’m from California for some reason?
Have you ever been to California? How is it ruined?
it was federal election. not state. what california policies? texas is still red on the inside they just went blue on federal level. In other words NOTHING changed for texas, but a lot changed on federal level
dafuq? gov, lt gov, and a few others already flipped D
Thank you, MAGA, for this generational win. Watching Hannity choke down tears while announcing Andrews’ win in South Carolina gave me such a wonderful sense of patriotic schadenfreude.
I cannot believe Texas is going blue! Hell yeah!

CNN saying dems win control of the house.
MSNOW is calling a minimum of 235 seats.
AP doesn’t make projections but in confirmed seats alone, Dems are already up 153 to 95 with 187 seats yet to be called.
And I’m seeing a lot of light blue (meaning uncalled seats leaning Dem)
Mississippi was called R, but super close: ~15,200 vote difference with 92% reporting. That would have been insane. I wonder if it’s in recount territory. (Independent Ty Pinkins got 19,000 votes, for what it’s worth.)
https://abcnews.com/Politics/mississippi-2026-live-midterm-election-results/story?id=136767242
Edit: Too close to call, probably going to head to recount territory either way. Colom ahead by 48(!) votes as of 1:12 AM:

Colom has a ~3500 vote lead at 97%. I cannot believe that MS might be in play.
Now 43 vote lead with 96% on ABC, not seeing the 97% reporting - but great if that’s the case.
Georgia has its first Democratic governor in 28 years!
And the first black woman governor, I think.
in US history, correct. also got our first out and proud trans lawmaker…in GEORGIA.
While I appreciate that democrats in general are “for they/them”, it’s nice to actually see a they/them take seat of power in government.
as a they/them myself, i couldnt agree more :)
IIRC it was a clean sweep. Secretary of State and AG as well.
AP hasn’t called Sec. State or House D2, but they are not looking good. I was expecting a R sweep, but I was really really wanting to get rid of Cotton.EDIT: Sorry, I lost the thread context. The above was about my state of Arkansas (where Rs are going to sweep).
Great! More blue in the South can only be good. I hope the Ds down here can focus on Working-class issues. If we could get a generation of blue-collar workers (incl. farmers and ranchers) that don’t automatically vote R “for economic reasons”, we might also see some movement on other attitudes.
Texas fuckery for you: My coworker is a registered voter and Puerto Rican. He tried to vote a few weeks ago, but the lady at the election place got sketchy and told him there’s a problem with his registration.
Yesterday he got a new registration card and planned to vote today…but they pulled a switcheroo on the location. The place where all the early voting happened is closed today in favor of an alternate location.
He was a maga voter last election who has since learned, and these barriers to his vote have reinforced his move back from the dark side.
From the future:
Even with all the fuckery, we got Blexas. How’s your coworker feeling now?
He’s not what I’d call happy or enthusiastic about the blue wave, but he knows the alternative is not even an option. Obviously I had to rib him over finally pulling his head out of his ass!
Was he able to vote?
He and his wife are in line now. When I hear back I’ll edit this comment. The poll workers will be hard pressed to turn them away with fresh voter ID cards, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.
Edit: They were able to vote.
🤞🤞
They voted 👍🏼
Excellent 👍👍
YES!!! Thanks for the update
Well, while agree that’s some fuckery going on there, in my county the early voting location (only one in the county) is never open on election day (when there are many other locations open).
I’m relieved more than anything. I really thought Republican fuckery would bone us.
The Guardian says Dems have 219 seats in the House – BOTH House and Senate are no longer MAGA!
I was struggling to fall asleep last night. Just happened to take a look at election results and senate was already over 50 seats blue, the ticker updated to 219 blue and it was the most relaxing feeling, stress I didnt know I had gone and replaced with a glimmer of hope, been a minute. Welcome back friend!
Yes. I feel like something very deep has unknotted, or as my better half put it, “I feel like I got upgraded to a better blood pressure medication,” lol. Thank you for the kind wishes. I hope we continue to dig ourselves out of this hole.
"Donald Trump has spent a decade poisoning American politics, destroying reputations, threatening opponents and bending the Republican Party to his will. Today, finally, America turned on him. But the sheer scale of his humiliation could prove every bit as devastating as the reckoning now awaiting him. In the USA there are very powerful interests who demand “freedom” in order to do as they like with the environment, society and the economy. They have infused a very large part of American culture with the belief that “freedom” is literally more important than life. My freedom to own assault weapons trumps your right not to get shot at school. Now, my freedom to go to the barber (“I Need a Haircut” read one banner this week in St Paul, Minnesota) trumps your need to avoid infection. Usually when this kind of outlandish idiocy is displaying itself, there is the comforting thought that, if things were really serious, it would all stop. People would sober up. Instead, a large part of the US has hit the bottle even harder. And the president, his party and their media allies keep supplying the drinks. There has been no moment of truth, no shock of realisation that the antics have to end. No one of any substance on the US right has stepped in to say: get a grip, people are dying here. That is the mark of how deep the trouble is for the US – it is not just that Trump has treated the crisis merely as a way to feed tribal hatreds but that this behaviour has become normalised. When the freak show is live on TV every evening, and the star is boasting about his ratings, it is not really a freak show any more. For a very large and solid bloc of Americans, it is reality. And this will get worse before it gets better. Trump has many months in power. In his inaugural address he evoked “American carnage” and promised to make it stop. But now that the real carnage has arrived, he is revelling in it. He is in his element. As things get worse, he will pump more hatred and falsehood, more death-wish defiance of reason and decency, into the groundwater. If a new administration succeeds him in future it will have to clean up the toxic dump he leaves behind. If he returns in some way, toxicity will have become the lifeblood of American politics. Either way, it will be a very long time before the rest of the world can imagine America being great again.’

Yep, the people who support/supported him are still around. The work is never done.
