It’s like burning down your local bar then complaining about how nobody goes to the bar anymore.

My boomer mom cannot exist without the TV on. She literally will wake up if you turn it off. When she switched to streaming instead of cable, the “are you still watching” messages were a big obstacle. Oh, and she spends more time on video games than I do.

Same with my dad. He needs therapy, but instead spends 18 hours a day watching westerns. Occasionally baseball, but there’s not a single second of cowboy-themed media he hasn’t seen at least 50 times.

      It’s genuinely incomprehensible to me.

There will always be something and older generation complains about younger generations but do bad shit themselves.

Folks used to complain about me and my friends playing video games indoors for only an hour. Well they sat and watched TV from sun up to sun down. My dad didn’t watch as much as my mom, but he drank all the time.

Really it boils down to self control. Every generation has to face some new entertainment they shouldn’t overindulge in. But just because you didn’t have it and don’t understand it, you shouldn’t beat people up about it. It’s valid to say someone is doing anything too much though.

I’m steaming mad that the next generation plays video games by watching their favourite streamer make smurf after smurf and then buy the skins they’re told to.

      I feel justified there.

What does making a smurf mean?

This is the fediverse, so I can’t completely rule out the possibility that you casually use the word smurf like they do in the show, and I’m supposed to fill in the meaning from context.

A smurf is an account you create to pretend to be a low level noob, when you’re actually an experienced player. The goal is to deceive the matchmaking algorithm into putting you with newer players so you can stomp them.

And by doing so making the experience worse for new players. Its not the end of the world but its basically cheating. And cheaters are losers.

I used to do this except see how high I could get ranked with some arbitrary restrictions, like only allowed to use knife and grenades in csgo.

I got to distinguished master guardian with pistols only.

Knife and grenades was tough to get into gold.

Honestly though, I took my (now ex) boyfriend to the mountains one time and he couldn’t stop saying how he thought such beautiful scenery was only possible in video games.

Buncha those when Pac-Man was the big thing too. Political cartoonists are 99% shitty comedians on par with the “White people drive like this, my race drives like this” standup guys and 1% moderately entertaining sometimes.

Gen-X here. Can confirm that boomers bullied my neighbor and I because we spent hours on his NES.

EDIT: Atari 2600 before that, but the NES sessions were proper long.

Also it is bothering me to no end, that the kid says “on my video games” which is just wrong. It is either “in my games” or “on my pc/console”. With really shows to me that the maker has absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
