flashbacks to high school where some of the boys smelled… bad… like skidmarks and not showering for 5 days mixed with half a can of Lynx Africa

      It’s both, it’s both.

It can be both, but I’ve definitely been punched in the face by pure cologne/perfume on multiple occasions. Probably even more often than I’ve ever smelled BO equally as bad, including my own on those lazy stay at home days.

Though I do try my best to not get within smelling range of others regardless, so maybe cologne just has a larger radius most of the time. I’m definitely not sniffing pits to see how their BO mixes with what ever extra rank they’ve added…

If I have to travel by public transportation and I need to decide between someone who thinks they’re using perfumes moderately or a homeless drunk with shit in their pants - it’s always the drunk. Sure shit, piss, sweat, human-grease and old substances are nasty and unpleasant smells. But those don’t cause migraine and asthma for me.

To be fair, if you start regularly showering and keep up with the same amount of cologne, the cologne will become the problem. As it is, the cologne is a problem, along with at least one or two other more serious problems.

Or gone to smash tournaments. Luckily the weekly I run doesn’t have a lot of stinkers but there have been a few over the years.

I read a long time ago to do 1 spritz of cologne to the middle of the chest (for guys), ideally right after showering. I think the body heat and it usually being covered up by clothing helps with the overall scent. Can’t remember the details.

Also, mom told me when I was a teen, “The only person who should be able to smell your cologne is the person hugging you.” That’s always been my guide.

I do 2-3 sprays on my left wrist, dab my two wrists together, then dab my wrists on my neck. Still follows the same rules of only the person hugging you should smell your cologne.

I have no idea what’s better, but I just looked it up, and people recommend NOT rubbing it on anywhere because it can cause the fragrance to change because of heat, so just dabbing it on is fine.

It can also depend on you body chemistry some colognes will smell better on someone else but maybe not you. Ive found it good to get a third party’s opinion after youve been wearing it for a couple hours so that most/all of the alcohol has evaporated and the scent has time to set in. Some sents can go really stale where others can mature quite nicely.

My teenaged boys haven’t learned this lesson yet. I’ve tried telling them not to overdo the body spray/ cologne/ whatever, but they don’t seem to believe me.

Pay a girl to walk by them and go, “Oh, smells like a dead animal” to herself. A few coughs would help.

That should give your boys the heads up that they reek.

I’m pretty sure that’s what my parents did to me! Ha ha ha ha… :-(

Most high end fragrances also sell scented deodorants

Bathing and using the deodorant is the best option. You won’t overdo the scent

    Bad BO makes me wretch.

Cologne and Perfume gives me a headache and clogs up my sinuses.

    With those powers combined…

I’m physically ill from someones olfactory assault.

If I can smell a person at all from more than 3 feet away. I instantly have a negative opinion of them.

I was working in a situation that was hot and we had a lot of iso alcohol on hand. When you inevitably get too stanky, we would soak something like a paper towel in iso to scrub our pits and crotch. Makes you feel real warm for a bit and probably 10x my chance for ball cancer, but that would kill anything making stank.

I both stay very clean and use a range of scents, luckily no one’s ever complained I give them headaches and I usually get told I smell really good. I work with a lot of stinky people, but honestly sweat based BO isn’t the most common issue, it’s usually the smell of cat urine which keeps me a thousand feet away from the culprit or the familiar smell of someone who hasn’t washed their bed in a while and came to work straight out of it, I call it “sleep smell”… and that one’s starting to give me a weird complex because a really hot girl smells like it a lot and I’m starting to like a nasty smell… 😅

I can say with confidence I’ve never experienced a person who smells like cat piss, and I know the smell…and here someone is with confidence talking about people sleeping in cat piss as a known/common phenomenon… 😱🤮

Yeah, true. I’m not sure who has it worse though, someone judged so harshly all the time, or the people subjected to that stench…
