After the Trump administration charged a sitting judge and a sitting mayor in separate cases, a Democratic member of Congress has joined the list.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has arrested a sitting judge and a sitting mayor, leaving many to wonder whether a member of Congress might soon join the list. Wonder no more.

The acting U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba, announced on Monday that her office was charging Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., with “assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement.”

The basic elements of the story are straightforward. Earlier this month, a group of Democratic officials, including three members of Congress, visited Delaney Hall, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in New Jersey. The point, according to the lawmakers, was to conduct oversight, which is a core congressional responsibility.

If she caves, that sends a message that resistance is over. We have to be willing to go to prison, to make the world aware of what’s happening.

Members of Congress have every right to visit facilities like these. The Mayor on the other hand, didn’t have the authority, so was asked to leave. But to arrest a sitting Representative is crossing a hard line. They’re the ones breaking the law here.

I saw the video and that’s some bullshit. He was outside the gate in the parking lot. If I’m protesting on the steps in front of the USDA the security guards don’t have the authority to cuff me and drag me inside the facility. At best they would detain me outside until the police arrived. They did what they did because it was the scariest thing they thought they could get away with.

The mayor refused to leave because he was where they authorized him to wait. And then he did leave.

      That arrest is no better.

They don’t care about any laws, they’re following the Project2025 playbook to a tee, and are pushing and pushing until they can declare Martial Law in order to enact even more draconian things.

Lets also not forget that this was not a “surprise” oversight visit. I read somewhere, that the mayor Ras Baraka in person handed a letter of intention to conduct an oversight visit a week or two before hand. That part stuck out to me because he hand delivered the notice in person so that there was no uncertainty that they received the letter and to expect his visit.

What a coincidence! There is no uncertainty that the Republicans are implementing a fascist dictatorship, and every other American is just … letting it happen … too afraid to do what’s necessary.

In the press release announcing the charges, Habba asserted, “No one is above the law — politicians or otherwise.”

…and then she went on to praise the honesty, integrity, and strict adherence to the law by the current white house occupant.

And if the US weren’t a corporate dictatorship masquerading as a “democracy”, this type of terrorism would result in hard prison time for the fascist perpetrators.
