“There is no need to livestream any execution, including this one,” Murkowski wrote on social media Friday. “I would expect this from terrorists and dictators, but not here in America.”

Newsflash, Lisa — The Trump administration are terrorists and dictators.

The last public execution was the lynching of a black man, accused of having sex with a white woman.

Yes, that’s what he means by restoring our values. Racism.

Did you ever read the emancipation proclamation? Try it. Slavery was never ended in the US.

Also read his speech on the campaign trail in 1858:

“I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races — that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

In his own words, yes, Lincoln was a white supremacist. Don’t whitewash history

Lincoln was an abolitionist, he wanted to abolish slavery. Period. That particular argument you’re using is unironically one only repeated by white supremacists themselves as part of he Lost Cause narratives to diminish the importance of slavery as the cause of the civil war. That he didn’t think he could wave a magic wand and make it happen is not a criticism repeated by the intellengent.

Leaving out the part of his history where his experiences during the war, specifically his interactions with freed black people, tempered his fairly typical racial views is also revisionism.

Lincoln was provably better than most white Americans on the topic at the end of his life. He even showed all signs of continued improvement in that matter at the time of his assassination.

If you mean well, which I doubt, I’d suggest spending less time trying to tear down people who were well ahead of their social curves because they weren’t perfect for their entire life, all for the purpose of what, derailing the actual point that public executions simply aren’t acceptable in a modern nation?

Now, if you want to talk about how he war crimed Indians like any other president, that’s something worth criticism even by the standards of the time.

It’d be even weirder for you to bring up on this circumstance but at least it’d be right.

I would be if I believed the American societal project was promising and worth saving, and I fled the country because I preferred my and my family’s own comfort and safety over putting in the effort to do my part and turn the country around.

But there’s nothing good in America. There’s nothing worth saving. It’s a nation of imbeciles, racists and crass transactional individualists. The culture it spreads around the world is nauseating.

Not everybody in America is like that individually of course, but there’s enough of them that the nation as a whole is like that. I want no part of it, and I feel no duty towards it.

Insane take to say there is nothing worth saving. That kind of nihilism is why we rarely get more than 50% of people to vote. Running from country to country as the world slowly defends into fascism is just cowardice, if you actually cared, there are lots of things you can do to make a change for the people around you. But if you just run whenever things get rough you’ll eventually figure out that all systems require the active participation of good people to keep them from falling to facism/ bad people.

Germany made trains run on time, invented the freeway, magnetic tape bias, democratized the radio, invented the jet engine during the Third Reich, yet none of the Third Reich was worth saving.

Just because a terrible country invents useful things doesn’t mean it’s worth keeping around.

Well, the Nazis did learn a lot from America after all. They even thought Americans went too far in their racism and bigotry in some cases. Ya know, inbetween all the believing that the Aryan race descended from the moon and shit.

If you like video games like I do, Monty Zander did 3 video essays on Wolfenstein recently. The 2nd one on New Colossus, specifically on how much America and the Nazis have in common and how easily fascism slots into America. Not so different, eh? Aryans from the moon? Billionaires fleeing to Mars?

US had public lynching till the death of Emmett Till. People used to take photographs and body parts as souvenir. So you don’t have to go that far back to be American.

More like Columbian values, Spanish and Colonizers in general were extremely cruel and inhumane to their ‘lessers’ aka anyone not 100% European*.

      • Only good pedigree European nations, not those mongrels in ireland or poland, or romani, or Jews, or etc etc etc.

Anyone played wolfenstein new collosus lately? That town they nuked in Texas is essentially what they want, 50s aesthetics and performative Christianity.

I think they are doing it because they are losing in Iran, everyone hates people like donnie and Hegseth, prices for everything is insane, and they need to keep people away from talking about things like the Epstein files if all the other misery and distractions are not enough.

I mean yeah, but literally every action they take has the shadow of those things. But this guy just happens to share a name with the current conservative tv boogeyman dujoir. Sharing a name with the big-dicked man of their nightmares is getting this death floated as a public event. It’s great optics for a specific audience of 1.
