Yr.no is a nice weather service and it still shows lake ontario for me (though I’m not in the US and leave it on norsk instead of bothering to change to English)
The folks most concerned about such a change are those who live in the US since I’m assuming only we are exposed to this stupidity eg European providers aren’t renaming shit based on a lunatics directives. For us yr.no is hard to adjust to since it supports the english language BUT only uses Celsius. I’m aware metric is superior but at least for me I have to mentally translate from A->B and celsius is used nowhere but in the sciences here. EG its not a great alternative

But seriously, they cannot be their own map provider, right, That makes no sense. Probably what happened is the map provider finally did it.
NWS probably has their hands tied. AccuWeather on the other hand is run by bootlickers. They’re deep enough in that sphere that Trump tried to put the CEO in as the head of NOAA during his first term. They’ve tried unsuccessfully lobbying to restrict NWS’s free forecasting (the one we all pay for) because it was interfering with their business model. I’ll leave the sexual harassment problems as an exercise for the reader. These are shitheads who were shitheads long before this. Don’t use that service.
After discovering WeaWow, all other weather apps are inferior.
Have you tried Windy.com? It’s my website of choice for making weather-based plans.
They use Mapy and OSM maps.I might have to try it again. A while back I did try a windy app, but it wasn’t great. Might have been an older version on last phone with older OS or a fake windy.

SpotWX is what I use for accurate weather and the ability to quickly check several different models. Learned about it in my avalanche course and it’s been great albeit with a subpar UI
By models are you referring to the weather source? WeaWow let’s you pick from multiple sources, though I don’t know if it’s comparable.
If you want a similar open source option for Android (without the globe map), Breezy weather is great. It’s on fdroid and you can also get it through obtainium. You can choose the weather source.
It doesn’t have WeaWow’s extensive widget options, nor does it seem to be able to just follow you around wherever you are and get the current conditions for that spot - you have to add locations to a list. My job has me going all over the place, so that’s not in the least convenient.
There are around 20 customizable widgets and you absolutely can use GPS location weather.
My dream is for the Weawow project to continue for another 200 years, until we reach Type 1 on the Kardashev scale.
Because at the current level of human civilization, it is not possible to make 100% accurate weather forecasts, I believe that it is necessary to compare and consider many data sources.

Check out the settings. You can pick exactly what you want for each section. Love the options.
The one thing that drives me nuts about it is the location name. It just looks wrong to me to show only the city name without the state abbreviation - especially after a full street address.
Sorry but I’m on their side. No private mapping supplier should be able to decide what things are called. Countries publicize official names of things and the private company should always use that. No matter how wrong it is

The national whatever for place names calls it Lake America. That’s the official source of data; neither Congress nor the president needs to be involved every single time a place is named (though this time the president decided to be because the president is a moron).

Trump tried to appoint the former owner of AccuWeather to run NWS in the first term. They were always on his side. They are also the reason the NWS site looks like it’s from 2006.
Yeah but the NWS site works great like that. It’s a little hard to navigate, but that’s not a style problem.
