Oh yeah, absolutely. I do feel lucky that the majority of the creators I like are on alternative platforms. I know a lot of creators do just use YouTube though. Some of them have even had their personal Google account deleted because of their attached YouTube account.

Unfortunately, even if a lot of viewers follow you on other platforms, creators tend to lose a huge amount of viewers since many do not.

I already don’t watch the slop, because I watch more content on Nebula and Patreon than I do on Google’s platform. That’s kind of the point, you know? YouTube is full of slop, and watching it in any way can support the slop they send to the masses, even if you aren’t seeing it yourself. No algorithms should be a default thing, not something only power users will even think of doing. That’s what I was saying about Nebula. If you don’t want to use one of the many private frontends for it, you still do not get an algorithm.

I vastly prefer Nebula and Patreon to YouTube in every way. Nebula may be centralized, but it’s no where near to the enshittification of YouTube. It is currently better, so I’m happy to use it. If it enshittifies, I’ll just stop using it, because you can do that.

I never said Nebula was a solution to anything other than not being YouTube while having the content creators they enjoy. It’s great at that, the cut they give creators is much better, there isn’t an insane amount of tracking, etc. If the content creator I enjoy is on both YouTube and Nebula, I’m going to use Nebula every time, because then I don’t have to support Google. You know, one of the biggest companies in the world, which is worth trillions? The one that peddles slop, spies on you, and intentionally makes their platform as addictive as possible?

Video is unfortunately a very expensive thing to store and network. The quality of content on Nebula is better than most things you can find on decentralized alternatives partly because it is able to actually pay creators. That will continue to be the main thing stopping creators from using decentralized platforms, unfortunately. That is not to say some aren’t successful on it or making high quality content, of course. It’s just a lot more rare than the centralized alternatives.

Also, do you think that the only creators on Nebula are Wendover and Tom Scott? There are plenty on there that are no where near that size, and are small creators. I’m not sure why you think small creators should get shafted because large creators exist on the platform.

It seems that you’re okay with people using YouTube if they use a private frontend. But you’re not okay with promoting a different platform entirely, so people can completely avoid YouTube? It isn’t making sense to me.

Because I like supporting the small creators of the content I enjoy? Because it’s only like $35-40 for an entire year? Because I find YouTube to be full of slop? Because Nebula doesn’t use an algorithm?

I could go on.

Well, backups would have saved his content, but for what viewer base? How is he supposed to use his backups to get his viewer base and income back? It took 10 years to get that.

This isn’t exactly true. I have a score above 820 and always pay my entire credit card balance off before it’s due every month to avoid interest. In fact, most of my cards get almost no use, except for the one with the best benefits. I use the others sparingly, I only use them twice or so a year to keep them open.

I say “isn’t exactly true” because of two things. Normally, the balance reported to the credit agencies aren’t what the balance was when it was due. It depends on when the lender reports it to the agency. For example, most of mine appear to be mid-cycle. This allows me to pay it off with no hit to my credit, so long as I just keep using it regularly.

Second, if you have any other type of loan (car, mortgage, personal, etc) then it really doesn’t matter. Those will almost always have a higher balance and payments anyway. Your credit score isn’t from one single source unless you are brand new to lending. It actually will lower your score if you only have one loan as well, so it’s important to keep accounts open (meaning you need to use your credit cards so they don’t get closed) and in good standing.

Always pay credit cards off entirely so you don’t give the bank your money. Always.

Even if she was some sort of organization only posting to “rile up” the voter base (she’s not, let me be clear about that), rape happens and is always horrific. It should always rile you up. If it doesn’t, I have serious concerns. Maybe you need to look inwards and determine why you’re having this reaction to someone posting that rape exists and is happening now.

I believe it. Before I got a heat pump back in the spring of 2022, I was paying around $750-800 every two to three months of heating, and that was when oil was relatively cheap compared to now. My poorly insulated PNW home was built in the 1940s, and the oil furnace was from the 1950s (so very inefficient all around). With heating oil as expensive as it is now, I probably have just about broken even with how much the heat pump cost.

I doubt he’ll be convicted and removed after impeachment unless Dems are actually somehow able to get a supermajority. I doubt they’ll get a supermajority.

I’ve had this thought as well. In the US, most people’s first experience with coffee is months old Folgers or Starbucks. These two examples are both burnt and taste like battery acid. So, of course they’re going to hate coffee.

Somehow it does the opposite for me. It makes me feel more thirsty, even though I know that’s not the reality. I guess it just makes my mouth feel dry?

The main ‘fighting’ that I’ve experienced is it being “confidently” incorrect about something I’m very knowledgeable about, so I have to constantly check what it’s doing anyway. I’ve also had to keep it from creating unnecessary functions and variables, from leaving empty comments (as in, empty of substance or actual context, leaving comments just to leave comments). It also constantly makes up problems to “solve”. It seems to have only gotten worse and worse with each subsequent model release. It wastes so many tokens doing things that don’t matter or are otherwise incorrect.

I honestly feel less productive in my job with it for 80-90% of the time, but the company makes me use the slop bot. It works for the basics, but any time I add complexity, I begin having to fight against the machine. I could see how I could feel more productive, it can iterate through code very fast. But most of it has something wrong, is bloated, or is just completely irrelevant. I ultimately just end up feeling like I wasted an entire day to get a subpar and soulless result.
