[blue character points at a square] We’ve done a peer reviewed study, and concluded that all squares have four sides

[annoyed orange character points at a diamond shape] This is objectively wrong, I’ve personally seen a four sided structure that isn’t a square

This has the same energy as that Tumblr thread* about how all odd numbers (in English) have an ‘e’ in them, and people butting in and saying things like “Nonsense! Eight is even and it has an e in it.”

    * The same thing may also have happened on Twitter if not elsewhere.

Next they will try to “prove” to you that all triangles have three inner angles! Pfft, stop the religion of science!

Um. All squares do have four sides.

If they said all shapes with four sides are squares, then this joke would work.

How would that work as a joke in that case? What would be even remotely funny about that?

I think the point of the joke is that the yellow character has fundamentally misunderstood the statement provided by the blue character. They erroneously interpret, “All squares have four sides” as “Squares are the only shape with four sides” because they are not good at parsing rigid, scientific statements (since most people are not particularly scientifically literate).

I think OP’s comics are meant to reflect the frustrations of conversing with people who simply don’t understand what science/research/studies/etc actually say.

Why did it make you angry? All gravitationally bound objects orbit around a common center. For the solar system that center wobbles around inside the sun depending on where Jupiter and Neptune are in their orbits. The rest of the mass of the solar system does contribute, but it is generally negligible for most conversations. This is actually one of the ways that exoplanet hunters have found literally thousands of planets in the last decade or so.

The problem with SOCIETY is that they NEVER give the yellow guy a CHANCE to make his CASE. The LIBERAL MEDIA owns our INFORMATION.

Edit: Wasn’t sure if it needed to be said, but /s

True, liberal media has a bias problem. They are so proud of being neutral, showing both sides, facts and alternative facts. This might sound like a good idea until you realize the implication that there are only two sides of the story. While facts are objective, there is an infinite amount of alternative facts you can come up with. It’s much easier to spread bullshit than to debunk it, still both get the same coverage. That’s why I like alternative media so much, so facts, still more perspectives.
