President Donald Trump told voters to pretend he was on the ballot in this year’s midterm elections.
They did. And they resoundingly rejected both his policies and his Republican Party.
Democrats have captured full control of Congress, NBC News projects, with voters delivering a forceful repudiation of Trump’s agenda, coupled with a clear-cut message that Congress has not done enough to provide checks on his administration and needs to do more to address affordability and corruption.
We can now hold the line, and he won’t get two, new, young SCOTUS Justices. That’s not nothing, but don’t expect Universal Healthcare or an end to the executive orders.
In two years we should oust the “centrist” Dems, even the ones we like, and replace them with the “radical left” DSA candidates. I’ll vote to replace Melanie Stansbury if a viable DSA candidate rises to challenge her. Fear of “splitting the vote” be damned.
this is the way. the primaries are the elections. republicans at every level violated or were derelict in their duty to stop violations of the constitution. voting republican is 100% anti american since trump started violating it as a matter of executive policy. Conservatives need to boot the republican party and form a new one that goes back to progressive pre nixon conservatism.
Just be careful and hold steady. Those billionaire-owned media companies are going to start their societal shaping immediately and they are good at that shit. Go “the People”!
this. we need essentially three election cycles to even kinda normalize. I mean folks threw out bidens team when he did a lot to recover from trump one in one term. heck obama barely leveled the blame after bush jr and they went to trump. we need to gain some altitude before being stupid again.
Even South Carolina flipped lol
The GOP senators have to be at least starting to think about removing Trump. He is the obvious cause of this. They are next if they don’t do it.
Idk, they don’t have a party anymore if they remove Trump.
I think they are fucked either way honestly. I was very optimistic going into this election and even that was shattered.
Mississippi is on the table this morning. Mississippi.
If they win MS, some Conservative judge is going to ratfuck that so hard.
Trump immediately throws the party under the bus and doubles down that he is the best ever. At least nixon seemed to care about his party. Republicans will likely respond with more trump hole licking. Thats what we see with darren bailey and the illinois republicans. doubled down. there is no level of loss that would get us to change. we will only just abandon more of our historical principles for a weak strong man type.
What an absolute massacre. Some faith in my country try was restored last night. At least a little.
My state just got our first elected female governor, a Democrat.
agreed. a little. I won’t be stopping protesting.
Thanks for doing what you can, from Iran.
I hope Democrats would no longer make excuses of having “slim minority” not to pass popular policies.
Now they’ll say they can’t pass anything because Trump will just veto it.
Good. Let him go on the record vetoing it. He can explain how Biden made him do it.
Every veto is a weapon in the 2028 election. Focus on affordability: housing, energy costs, medical costs.
Now that I think about, Dems could credibly threaten Trump with impeachment now they have overwhelming majority in both congress and senate.
Yes, they can impeach (put Trump on trial) but they cannot remove him from office. They would need a supermajority of the Senate for that. Trump has already been impeached twice.
The only threat the Democrats have is to make the impeachment trial a public affair and present evidence of Trump’s wrongdoing. They cannot force him to testify under oath due to the Fifth Amendment. It will not do much good since Trump is not allowed to run for reelection.
the republicans have been dealt a massive loss and trump is reacting by throwing them under the bus. They have a massive deficit of good will with the people. There is a small chance they might actually vote to remove him from office and let him know. this is what happened with nixon. They let him know and he resigned to avoid being the first ever president to be removed from office.
Much as I hate his guts, do we want President JD Vance? I’d rather have Trump in office continuing to harm the GOP politically while the House and Senate contain how much damage he can do.
I would risk vance after a republican thrashing that got trump removed from office honestly with a dem majority in both houses of congress.
If we can get the votes to remove him for crimes against the People, we should do so regardless of political expedience. If the office of the President is to ever have legitimacy again a criminal cannot be allowed to remain there if removal is an option.
True. I certainly wouldn’t object. But I can see the bright side of not being able to remove his as well.
he can easily be impeached again but removable from office needs two thirds of the senate. The 6 to 3 scotus is a real problem to.
You guys should fix your govt. system sometime.
That requires a super majority and states to accept it. While there are pissed off voters, it’s not nearly enough for a fundamental government shift.
You’re right, but god what I wouldn’t give for a good-faith constitutional convention. Trump has proved that you can’t do this bizarre dance we do in America where the constitution is vague and rickety and relies on jurisprudence, legislation, and unwritten norms, but simultaneously treats the governing documents as holy writ.
I agree with you 100%!
Republicans will filibuster everything and Democrats will just fold as usual.
I mean its what they did in the past like with the infrastructure bill that leaned heavily toward sustainability.
Really rough night for the “elections don’t matter” and “we’re not having midterms” crowds. Pour one out for them.
Firmly laid that theory to rest, I would say.
I wonder what they’ll come up with for 2028, because I sense a tide of optimism rolling in that they won’t be able to contend with.
as you see from replies they are going to double down. We are likely to get things like the infrastructure bill which was not good enough for folks before to not bend over and ask for more trump. soooooo
Fuck those pysop motherfuckers! As if voting precludes pushing for more and better.
Its not always a psyop, sometimes they’re just out here trying to justify their lazy self-defeating personality.
You mean “it’s not always propagandists, sometimes they’re just propagandees.”
Either way, still a psyop.
… the psychological operation is to abuse those morons’ dumbass personalities and mental disorders.
Honestly the jump to psyop just comes across someone too out of touch with reality to understand the fuck people are.
Like mother fucker, what do you think is more likely. Lazy, depressed, and self-defeating people being tired and dooming? Or a coordinated psyop across the entire internet that lines up perfectly with the exact same shit people have been saying, doing and dooming about since the 1900s.
Like get out of your house and talk to some normal people, you will realize this isn’t a psyop. People are ACTUALLY just that tired or stupid.
That said there is obviously bots going around trying to influence things. But they are more just pushing people in directions they already lay.
What you seem to fail to understand is that not only are psyops real, people doing it for other reasons are often also victims of a psyop. Either way, they may as well all be a psyop, they’re all spreading horrifically terrible information that is hard to believe anyone came up with on their own.
Why not both?
Everyone said “trump is not leaving office”
And they said, “the corporate Dems share the same donors as MAGA”
Neither of those has been disproven and we will quickly see how constrained they are and how no one can be held accountable. That is what people have been saying and that is not a psyop. It is 40 years of data
Trump left office before and he’ll leave it again.
Nice try though.
Yeah, because Jan 6 failed.
It should frighten you more that they would even think that they can just go on living after all they’ve done. And all of you will accept Democrats working WITH him? Allowing him to taint this country and the office for another two years of more illegal and immoral corruption? Do you think they are going to stop Kushner? The cryptobribes? The secret Russia trips? Elon sabotaging Ukraine? Him selling secrets? Him and all of his cronies destroying the Epstein files? All of the missing oil and money from Venezuela? Assassinating an ICC Investigator that was looking into his WARCRIMES?
And to you, this is winning?
What the fuck are you on about?
If you don’t know what a single one of those crimes are, then you don’t need to type anymore
How about you worry about yourself buddy.
Honestly their arguments aren’t that unreasonable, I don’t think it’s entirely invalid to not be asking questions about a guy who has absolutely murdered and raped literal children
Yep! Can only lead a horse to water. Enjoy your “win”
The mass calls and protests should start now. You actually have people who might listen to you in power.
I think them starting awhile ago was the right call. more now is good but its not like wait until now.
The time for civil unrest has come and passed many times the past 11 years. Only money is worth anything to the murican people.
The MAGA tears from brocastors is going to be great.
Every single person who has been angry, upset, scared, and frustrated with the past two years needs to be up their representative’s ass TOMORROW to tell them to put these fucking fascists in prison and burn anyone who stood with them. We cannot let the Democrats try to have things go back to the status quo.
The GOP and big business has proven they will fucking grind us to dust if it means they can make more money. Every single sack of shit lining up behind Trump’s fascist regime needs to be held accountable. Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Greg Bovino, Markwayne Mullin, and Pete Hegseth need to be in fucking prison. Kash Patel needs to be in front of a committee every fucking day for his bullshit.
Elon Musk’s companies need to be nationalized or stripped of all their govt contracts. That motherfucker needs to be deported. Meta, Google, and Amazon need to be regulated.
Tomorrow? They aren’t sworn in until next year. Like unless they are an incumbent they wouldn’t have staff to answer a call or even an email address set up.
I’m generally addressing those with incumbent Dem representatives who have sat on their hands the past two years.
Some of the new incoming reps might have contact forms on their campaign sites.
My point is there needs to be continuous pressure and not complacency from the public.
as corkyskog said they take office in january. expect a shenanigans in the lame duck congress.
And it’s Fetterman-proof in the Senate. What a weird and great night.
Need more Dems in there, one could act as a spoiler and Fuck everything up
fetterman anyone.
May this be the start of the Overton Window shifting so far to the Left that we never have Republicans again
amen and im an athiest.
It is a great victory, but I feel it is gonna be a hard two years. I hope dem can end blantant corruption by Trump, which is very doable, but they will have a hard time fixing all the shit show that is going on, from AI bubble to oil prices.
If people don’t see legitimate economical improvements (which is unlikely given the current global situation) the next president election likely will not be as clear cut as this one.
Disclaimer: I am not suggesting other issues are less important than economics, but we have seen time and time again: voters care more about gas price up 50 cents than elementary schools being bombed.
I am going to make people care about the elementary schools being bombed by any means necessary. If voters don’t care about that then Americans don’t deserve to have a country.
They need to end all funding to any departments that are not in line with the law.
Oh boy, gridlock here we come. Enough votes to send stuff to him, but not enough to override his veto.
ill take gridlock over the big beutiful bill
It’s much more than this, but even this part is an absolute win. No more rubber stamping whatever Toddler Trump wants. It’s a return of checks and balances. It opens up doors to investigations, shutting down budgets that fund his nonsense, blocking everything he wants to do, blocking appointments, and impeachment (though I still expect it never to pass the Senate unless they can show some smoking guns - even then I’m not sure).
I could see Republicans agreeing to impeach Trump under the backroom deal that the Dark Enlightenment’s own fuccboi JD Vance is left out of it.
I’m not entirely sure that deal is worth taking.
Everyone with an R by their name is complicit.
EV RY ONE.
You have a r in your name. So do i! ARE WE COMPLICIT!!!11!1! DUN DUN DUUUN.
I am very tired this is a stupid joke. No i wont say sorry. But i do need more nyquil.
its also sadly meaning trump will block anything they want to do too.
I wouldn’t be so sure, things are going to get weird. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump signs some early Dem legislation just to spite Republicans for losing. People seem to forget the president has the most obvious case of NPD ever seen and dementia.
Fucking good. That way when Dems try to actually pass legislation and make shit happen, Trump can veto it and all the blame can be squarely laid at his feet.
Dems need to actually keep that in the news cycle too. Establishment dems definitely have a “people don’t want us to brag” mentality, but it means that republicans are really good at auto-fellation in comparison. Congress needs to keep putting wildly popular legislation on his desk, and every single time he vetoes it, they need to raise hell.
Every single bill he vetoes should be a branding iron on his flabby pale ass. Forcibly brand him as the president who vetoed universal healthcare, livable minimum wage, guaranteed paid maternity/paternity leave, etc… Don’t let the news cycle (and voters) forget why the gridlock is occurring.
I am an atheist and I want Talarico on the news every fucking day talking about how God supports the Democrats path for peace and prosperity or however he wants to phrase it. Like 2/3rs of Americans are religious and the right somehow claimed them all without any kind of fight from Democrats.
That’s okay. No more court appointments. And full control of the budget. That will be enough to turn this regime into a lame duck administration.
Gridlock is the better option, compared to the last two years.
The problem is that the process will be gridlocked, while he’ll still be exercising his executive power unchecked.
