Why’s stuff in Aussie always skin-crawling-creepy? Nasty poisonous spiders on the wall, and now this? Just how did this crawl up there and plug itself in is what I want to know.

The big wall spiders you see from Australia are totally harmless, it’s the little ones that live underground you gotta watch out for. But even so we’re probably the safest country in the world to get bitten by a spider

But even so we’re probably the safest country in the world to get bitten by a spider

Why? Do you have antidotes for all common venomous spiders readily available, or are there just not that many of them in reality?

There are precisely two meaningfully dangerous spiders. Redbacks and Sydney Funnelwebs. The former keep to themselves, and the latter have an attitude problem because they have to live in Sydney

Both are covered by antivenin that all paramedics and emergency rooms keep.

Nobody has died from a spider bite in Australia since 1979. The Sydney funnelweb antivenin was developed in 1980.

            Nice!

Any other dangerous critters in Australia that one should be aware of though? I’m aware of all the memes about how everything in Australia wants to kill you, but I have no idea of the reality and haven’t ever been myself - probably want to visit one day because I know you guys have some really beautiful nature, but it’s far enough away that the cost and flight time make it somewhat of an ordeal compared to a 3 hour flight to another corner of Europe for a weekend getaway

One is power, the other one presumably Ethernet going into the cable channel behind the plug.

That said, that outlet is none of type A-O, so probably AI after all.

Looks like a cross between aussie and NA ones to me, I can’t find one that look exactly like this for any country. Otherwise it could even make sense since powerline ethernet adapters are a thing.

Not sure if some weird smartphone AI magic might’ve straightened up an aussie outlet? Either way, it’s… weird. Not even sure why this photo needed to be genAI, routers like this aren’t all that uncommon

Edit: I think someone used AI to “sharpen” this even blurrier image from ~2 years ago as details have changed and the right side of the image has been cropped, but the overall image shape is the same
