Used to love pulling on the plungers like they were pinball machines. Really wanted to smoke too.

I’d grow up, try cigarettes, and fortunately the nicotine high was not for me. Harder drugs only.

Wife tried a 20mg weed gummy at a concert and was completely knocked on her ass. I went to a bachelor party and mindlessly chomped through a bar of brownies that had, like, six doses in it. These indie producers turn delicious pieces of candy into maximum strength pharmaceuticals. I’ve got a million other stories from friends and neighbors who had similar experiences.

Nevermind the children, I don’t think adults are capable of just taking this shit recreationally without some kind of supervision. Incidentally, that goes for alcohol and nicotine, too. “Oh, you just turned 21? Have a handle of Everclear. Knock yourself out.” Madness.

Exactly why this shit is age restricted. Hopefully by 21 you have any sense of critical thinking and self preservation and know that drugs and alcohol should be taken in moderation. If you dont know what moderation is, ask some one, or google it. Or start slow and figure out what your line is.

      Be a grown up.

If the product exists specifically to fuck people up and has served that purpose for the vast majority of human history then the expectation for you to know exactly what will happen when you ingest it is completely reasonable.

          Libertarian police

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.

“Bad news, detective. We got a situation.”

“What? Is the mayor trying to ban trans fats again?”

“Worse. Somebody just stole four hundred and forty-seven million dollars’ worth of bitcoins.”

The heroin needle practically fell out of my arm. “What kind of monster would do something like that? Bitcoins are the ultimate currency: virtual, anonymous, stateless. They represent true economic freedom, not subject to arbitrary manipulation by any government. Do we have any leads?”

“Not yet. But mark my words: we’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to take them down … provided someone pays us a fair market rate to do so.”

“Easy, chief,” I said. “Any rate the market offers is, by definition, fair.”

He laughed. “That’s why you’re the best I got, Lisowski. Now you get out there and find those bitcoins.”

          “Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m on it.”

I put a quarter in the siren. Ten minutes later, I was on the scene. It was a normal office building, strangled on all sides by public sidewalks. I hopped over them and went inside.

“Home Depot™ Presents the Police!®” I said, flashing my badge and my gun and a small picture of Ron Paul. “Nobody move unless you want to!” They didn’t.

“Now, which one of you punks is going to pay me to investigate this crime?” No one spoke up.

“Come on,” I said. “Don’t you all understand that the protection of private property is the foundation of all personal liberty?”

It didn’t seem like they did.

“Seriously, guys. Without a strong economic motivator, I’m just going to stand here and not solve this case. Cash is fine, but I prefer being paid in gold bullion or autographed Penn Jillette posters.”

Nothing. These people were stonewalling me. It almost seemed like they didn’t care that a fortune in computer money invented to buy drugs was missing.

I figured I could wait them out. I lit several cigarettes indoors. A pregnant lady coughed, and I told her that secondhand smoke is a myth. Just then, a man in glasses made a break for it.

“Subway™ Eat Fresh and Freeze, Scumbag!®” I yelled.

Too late. He was already out the front door. I went after him.

“Stop right there!” I yelled as I ran. He was faster than me because I always try to avoid stepping on public sidewalks. Our country needs a private-sidewalk voucher system, but, thanks to the incestuous interplay between our corrupt federal government and the public-sidewalk lobby, it will never happen.

I was losing him. “Listen, I’ll pay you to stop!” I yelled. “What would you consider an appropriate price point for stopping? I’ll offer you a thirteenth of an ounce of gold and a gently worn ‘Bob Barr ‘08’ extra-large long-sleeved men’s T-shirt!”

He turned. In his hand was a revolver that the Constitution said he had every right to own. He fired at me and missed. I pulled my own gun, put a quarter in it, and fired back. The bullet lodged in a U.S.P.S. mailbox less than a foot from his head. I shot the mailbox again, on purpose.

“All right, all right!” the man yelled, throwing down his weapon. “I give up, cop! I confess: I took the bitcoins.”

“Why’d you do it?” I asked, as I slapped a pair of Oikos™ Greek Yogurt Presents Handcuffs® on the guy.

          “Because I was afraid.”

          “Afraid?”

“Afraid of an economic future free from the pernicious meddling of central bankers,” he said. “I’m a central banker.”

I wanted to coldcock the guy. Years ago, a central banker killed my partner. Instead, I shook my head.

“Let this be a message to all your central-banker friends out on the street,” I said. “No matter how many bitcoins you steal, you’ll never take away the dream of an open society based on the principles of personal and economic freedom.”

He nodded, because he knew I was right. Then he swiped his credit card to pay me.

Nevermind that children would have access to a vending machine.

Just like they have access to scissors. Yet we teach children what danger they carry and expect them - literal humans with stunted ability to foresee consequences - to behave safely with them. Which they do with some edge cases.

Main difference between scissors and alcohol is we restrict people with said stunted ability to foresee from accessimg it, because it’s use is nuanced and requires one to be fully responsible for themself. And we assume that an adult person is responsible for themself. Otherwise we ahould not sell knives, cars, allow hiking, bar windows by default…

Stop offloading thinking to others and claim consequences of your own actions.

Trying any drugs at random at a concert without someone who’s real about dose and expectations is kind of…well, a bad idea in general.

Those 20mg gummies tend to state each gummy is 2-4 servings, at least mine do. It’s why the previous source I bought from sold her Delta-8 gummies dosed to 5mg each to make it far easier to nail an exact dose.

But, I also see absurd 600mg mixed THC (10% D-9, 90% D-8) ones that say “start by taking (quarter|half) of a gummy and wait several hours before trying any more” and like… that’s irresponsible as hell to phrase, but I think the expectation is – given them labeled “maximum strength” – is that you know what you’re good for before digging into those.

I don’t know what the happy medium here is on labeling and access, as I agree on the Everclear thing, but you do have to go into a store for that at least. And, to be fair, Everclear tastes like such ass even mixed with anything it has to be diluted down to like, wine strength to be drinkable generally from what I’ve seen, or at least cocktail strength.

Trying any drugs at random at a concert without someone who’s real about dose and expectations is kind of…well, a bad idea in general.

How on earth is this an argument in favor of weed-gummy vending machines?

you know what you’re good for before digging into those

        That’s an absurd expectation.

I don’t know what the happy medium here is on labeling and access

I mean, just for absolute starters, I think giving THC the same regulatory treatment as alcohol and cigarettes makes sense. Even past that, regulatory limits on per-unit dosage and warning labels on packages that aren’t 2-pt-font and maybe even a nurse or pharmacist on hand at point of distribution to give you someone with more experience to talk to would be a vast improvement.

Everclear tastes like such ass even mixed with anything it has to be diluted down to like, wine strength to be drinkable generally from what I’ve seen, or at least cocktail strength.

One experience I had in college that stuck with me was that, as someone gets drunker, their ability to self-regulate alcohol intake disintegrates. This is to the point that some of my friends who are 100 lbs skinnier than me were going shot for shot by the end of the night. And that always ended in disaster.

The fact that Everclear tastes like ass doesn’t dissuade someone who is already 3+ drinks in. Especially if they’re just pounding them.

I want weed gummy vending machines on every corner, basically they should be in my line of sight at all times.

At the same time, I want that product to be tightly regulated and batch-tested for contaminants. The dose in each serving should be low low - I’m talking 1mg in each “piece”. That way you can accurately dose as much as you want with 1mg precision, not just nibble and hope you didn’t overdo it. Each package needs to include essential info that’s easy for a beginner to read and understand.

          These are very compatible opinions.

Most drug users are not wild outcasts who need to gobble up the highest dose. Those people exist somewhere but they’re an extreme minority who happen to be loud.

We want to get high - maybe even truly zooted. But we also want to stay safe and have a good time. We want a high degree of controls over what and how we choose to ingest. And we need the data so we know exactly what to expect. Highly-concentrated products don’t do any favors, they’re just the easiest to pump out at scale for a grey market audience who might not always know better.

At one point I did an improvised extraction of THC into olive oil. I significantly underestimated what 0.5g of weed contains when the majority is not wasted by burning it.

THC affects you much differently when it’s metabolized by the liver first, instead of going directly into the blood stream.

Edible thc is actually metabolized into a different kind of cannabinoid so instead of regular thc , you end up with 11-delta-9 thc, also called THC-COOH I think this particular form of thc is a stronger activaitor of your CB1 (cannabinoid) and CB2 receptors. This resulted in a more prolonged an intense effect all thanks to your liver.

But then again I’ve only had potent weed gummies work for me one time ever, and that was 100mg, a dose that is both expensive and no longer does the job. I take 5mg for sleep sometimes and that works but I dont get anything fun out of any of it. I keep hearing stories of people being knocked on their ass and I want that!

I only started trying weed in my late 30’s and vaping/smoking it just does not appeal at all, so edibles it is.

I have tried a few different kinds now from different vendors and I can tell you that there’s a lot of variance out there. I’m was hoping I’d be able to dial in my “ideal” dose but 20mg from one vendor will absolutely send me while 20mg from another does precisely fuck all.

I know if you smoke/vape it you can dial in your ideal much more carefully but 🤢

My sister once accidentally gave me her cart set to the maximum voltage at a party I took a massive rip (copying what she does) and got ZOOTED. I was able to keep it together for some time, we went outside and set off sprinkler (fireworks) and got photos. Then I forgot what changed but while I was sitting on the couch while the whole world spun at 100 miles an hour and constantly reset itself to the center of my vision and I got soo motion sick. Then I puked into like 5 different empty cups on the table in front of me, people just kept handing me more empty cups until I emptied my stomach 😭

I somehow managed not not make any mess at all, they were all talking about how it was “the most polite party puke” they’ve ever seen.

My sister was so apologetic and reassured me that it’s totally normal to have this happen and on the bright side now I know my limit. She shared a story about how she puked all over her car drunk on her second ever date with her (now) husband lol

I’m still importing flavored nic pouches from Sweden but one of my orders got seized by customs. Thankfully the vendor refunded me for it, but still a pain in the ass.

          Adults like flavor, too.

Also, on the whole, isn’t nicotine consumption among kids on the downswing anyway? Take the wins where you have them. That has far more to do with making smoking un-cool (and millennials and X’er parents quitting in droves) than any sort of flavor ban.

And a lot of us quit (smoking, at least…we pivoted our addiction to one with less damning side effects) with…drumroll please…flavored vapes.

Right? I still think about the “grape” and “iced tea” flavored cigarettes I was able to buy in Korea. Absolutely delicious, better buzz, and didn’t make my mouth taste like an ash tray afterwards. Can’t get anything like that in the States.

Which, to the other commenters’ point, is probably good, because the ash-tray-mouth is a large contributor to why I no longer smoke.

Y’all remember the good ole days when all we had to deal with was the constant terror of some deranged lunatic starting a nuclear war and killing us all?

Just tried a vodka soda released in freezie flavors. Red, orange, blue, and white. They taste exactly like freezies, but have a couple in a row and you will realize the difference.

I’m surprised no pearl clutchers have started yelling yet

Give them time. They’re too busy harassing trans kids and trying to re-criminalize cannabis to notice right now.

I don’t find it too surprising really. Alcohol is over on the “good” side of the list (despite having a godawful safety profile.)

While I’m sure child vending machines could be done despite the slew of ethical problems they’d inevitably create, I’m pretty sure that’s a job better left to mothers. They’ve had that whole process down pat for at least a decade or two; I don’t see much point in reinventing the wheel.

I have seen vending machines for beer that you have to swipe your passport/ID on so that it verifies your age. So ething sinilar could be done

Any smoke/beer vending machine ive seen has always been in an establishment you need to be 21 to enter (bars/clubs) and they check ID at the door

I remember the bowling alley near me still had a cigarette vending machine as a kid. Right next to the video poker machines.

    Think of the children…

…unless you’re a pedo. Then you should take a chemical castration gummy.

Unfortunately weed is not safe for developing brains, I recommend abstaining from it until the age of 24 at the earliest if you want to be able to perform memory tests well.
