Wyoming today has a libertarian “leave me the fuck alone” type of conservatism. The push is to turn it into a christo-fascist conservative state like Idaho.

Wyoming today has a libertarian “leave me the fuck alone” type of conservatism.

      Until you hit Jackson.

Then it swings HARD into “Fuck you poors, I got mine.”

It’s the wealthiest county in the US.

That’s what you’d expect, but it isn’t the truth. Teton counties (Wyoming/Idaho twin counties) are very blue and the ultra wealthy actually fund a lot of programs. If you think about it, it makes sense. The counties are remote. If you want to maintain an exceptional quality of life, you need to take care of your area and those who keep it going.

        SOURCE: I live here.

EDIT: OK. I am watching the video, and so far I am seeing a lot of truth bending. Jackson Hole is for Billionaires, but Victor and Driggs Idaho are for multi-millionaires. If you own in Victor or Driggs, you are not slumming it. The footage of the decrepit trailers and rows of RVs are disingenuous. Decrepit trailers cannot survive our winters and the RVs are the summer Yellowstone crowds. Locals are not living in them.

I bought in 2016 and moved in in 2019. I had heart surgery so that delayed the move to my house. I paid $210k for it and in 2018 my wife tried to sell for $250k to pay for my expected medical bills (thankfully, the bill wasn’t as bad as we expected). No buyers. While it was empty, we rented it out and all we could get was $1000/month for the entire house.

The real reason for the lack of affordable housing is not the rich people in hiding. Billionaires/millionaires want their slice of heaven left intact. The real craziness started with the COVID-19 lockdown. Since the lockdown, my $210k house valuation jumped to $800k. All of my neighbors, except one, sold to venture capital funds. The trailer parks got sold to funds who ordered trailer owners to move their trailers with 30-days notice. To where? How? Rental only multi-family developments started replacing generational homes and the trailer parks. Y’all know this story. Funds are like locusts.

In response, some of the wealthy residents and even the resorts, have started to build affordable housing because the area cannot survive without the people keeping the lights on. Whoever sold or couldn’t buy before covid is priced out. It’s a really big problem, but it isn’t because of the rich people that lived there for years. It’s because of the funds looking to squeeze renters. The same story you see nationwide.

PS: I know Brandon (from the video). Him and his dad built (rebuilt) my deck. Good guy.

EDIT 2: LOL. First edit was early in the video but it soon caught up with what I wrote. There you go. Funds came in, bought everything, and kicked everyone out. The conservation priority is real though.

We have learned the “leave me alone” also includes “punish the people who don’t think like me.”

Wyoming is a shit hole so it figures it’s dominated by right wing morons. The tallest building in Wyoming isn’t in Cheyenne, it’s a 12 story dorm in Laramie at UW. The state is basically sage brush and maga posters. Wyoming could be the #1 producer of wind energy in this country but the yokel residents keep voting it down because the m’oil tookrjerbs crowd can’t read or think logically. If we had to get rid of a state completely Wyoming would be top of my list. There must be a ton of lead in the water out there.

Nothing I said applies to Yellowstone. Yellowstone is beautiful.

Gonna have to disagree with you on Wyoming being a complete lost cause since fucking Utah exists. A lot of the same issues but with a larger population and an economy to be annoying about it. At least Wyoming could become better with population migration meanwhile Utah is basically on a ticker until the Great Salt lake dries up or the have a water crisis because of lake powel drying up.

Oh yeah I was already aware of that. Funny and sad thing is that it’s %100 avoidable even with global warming since as I understand it most of the issue is due to too much agriculture, cut the agriculture down to only local production and the problem would most likely solve itself problem is Mormons have a tendency of not giving a fuck exhausting the local environment so I doubt they will do anything unless forced. Fun fact back in the 1800s and early 1900s the Mormons in my area were defacto banned from renting or leasing grazing lands because they would almost always over graze so nobody would work with them, combine that with their propensity for cattle russling and it’s no wonder a lot of them are buried in unmarked graves.

I just wish conservatives on big plots of empty land had less of a grip on this country…if only we could merge Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, and the Dakotas while we give DC and Puerto Rico statehood.

Thank the disproportionate system of senate representation allowing a minority of dickheads to maintain power of the majority. By design, so the plutocrats can manipulate the naive into doing their bidding.

They have perfected a system of having the rubes in flyover country vote for exactly what the elites would want. And in that process, they have convinced the rubes that they are some kind of vanguard voting against the elite.

Naturally, they have reprogrammed these people to believe that the term “elite” has nothing to do with obscene amounts of wealth, no, no, no. Being elite means: being intelligent, knowing things, having expertise, an education, having traveled to a big city, knowing another language, having a passport they have used, etc…

I have an aunt in Laramie and one in Cheyenne. Between their family and friends, I think I’ve met pretty much all the Democrats in Wyoming. Nah, just kidding. There might be a couple more up in Thermop.
