Huh, a large majority of voters want voters to be able to vote? Weird.
I’m proud of those people, this is Missouri
I mean they ARE the sort of people you’d expect from Missouri but also acting in self interest.
Shits fucked and everyone knows it. We might not agree on why, but we all agree it is.
Goddamn, an 80/20 split is pretty big. I’m sure there have been bigger, but I can’t imagine that many.
All 4 amendments in Missouri were hugely decisive and actually went the way a sane person would want it to go.
Just waiting for Amendment 3 this November. Last go around, it enshrined the right to reproductive care/abortions. The opponents ran giant billboards, “NO ON 3, STOP MINOR TRANSGENDER SURGERY!” Despite nothing in the wording even mentioning trans folk.
This time, passing 3 would both prohibit abortion and the non-existent protections for minor transgender surgery - so I guess at least this time the billboards screaming “YES ON 3! STOP MINOR TRANSGENDER SURGERY!” are technically correct (but still hella misleading).
You’d think those would be two separate amendments anyhow, but not in US politics.
Instead you get things like “vote yes to increase taxes on the wealthy and also start killing kittens”
If we limit the kitten slaughter to behavioral euthanasia and increase the taxes on the wealthy to a similar level, idk maybe I’d vote for it
And they’d call it the “Feeding American Children Act” or some bullshit despite being about neither.
Although taxing the wealthy would help feed children so maybe this comment doesn’t work.
The interesting thing about 2026 is everyone knows we’re getting fucked. But people don’t seem to accurately assess who is fucking them the worst, or identify what do when both major parties are fucking us. But even republicans, when asked “do you want to give these tyrants more power over us?” will say no.
In such times, ballot initiatives, despite their flaws, remain an incredibly important tool for reigning in authoritarianism.
Man I’d rather be getting fucked by democrats right now.
We could continue fighting for positive change and not be fighting for our lives.
That’s so fair, I’d rather be getting fucked right now too

Well I never thought I’d see the day
So now the GOP locked-down MO gubment ignores it, right?
Chris Stigall is so gross. I can’t stand his fat fake face

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Wesley Bell won Tuesday’s rematch in the Missouri Democratic primary against former Rep. Cori Bush, an outspoken activist who had been part of a progressive group of House members known as the Squad…
As was the case in the last campaign, Bell was backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which lobbies for U.S. support of Israel. Bush has denounced Israel’s military action in Gaza…
Yeah was sad to hear about Bush losing to Bell again. Had I been in the district I would have voted for her. KC gets enough shit from the ignorant led poisoned rural areas. And that’s still nothing compared to the BS STL has to deal with.
Mo has a history of keeping initiative system alive and using it for left leaning policy while continuing to put gop officials in charge of everything. I wouldn’t read too much into this.
Gerrymandering and rigging is rampant. If voting was made equitable and accessible across the state. Things would be quite a bit different. Up here in the Northland of Kansas city. The polling places are often well staffed with plenty of places to vote. If you go down south Staffing gets a lot sketchier and the amount of places to vote goes down while the amount of people using those fewer places goes up. It’s All By Design. Meanwhile rural areas you just wander in any time of day you want to go vote there’s almost never a wait.
The interesting part about this was that it would still allow the lawmakers to use the old (easier) method, while regular citizens would be forced to use the new (harder) method. So the lawmakers know this new system would be harder, and specifically created a carve-out for themselves.
