    Yep that’s why it exists. American petroleum engineers and techs working in Arab states where alcohol is banned. It’s also why it’s called that since screwdrivers are used by almost everyone.

      There’s no clear origin to the name. Both tales on Wikipedia refer to using a screwdriver to stir the drink at work.

        While there’s no clear origin I can certainly tell you why they would keep calling it a screwdriver while hiding their drinking around their Arabian ESL colleagues

          I had a professor who did complex math for energy exploration in Saudi Arabia and apparently you can legally buy a still permit if you have the cash to do so. That’s how all of the Saudi royalty gets behind prohibition I guess.
