I wonder how the number of deaths has changed over time. Road and vehicle safety have improved, lighting improved, it’s more common for kids to have reflective objects on them, and fewer kids are going out. Maybe it was a lot worse in the past?

For me, these days it’s mostly on subreddits/posts that are discussing the fediverse, or are a source of a lot of users coming to Lemmy (or lemmy.ca specifically, such as the case with r/buycanadian). In the discussions, I try to answer questions the best I can, and I’m honest about any limitations that people bring up. I find that the CBC gem newsletter helps. CBC Gem isn’t a full replacement to all other streaming platforms but it does help reduce usage of the other ones. It’s hard to switch over to Canadian options all at once. Another factor is how difficult it is to hear about content that isn’t popular on social media. Even with content that is on a large streaming platform, people will come across it months of years later wondering why people didn’t mention it before

CBC gem has a lot of pretty good procedural type shows (ex. police dramas), especially when you mix in the content from the UK, Europe, Australia/New Zealand. There are some good sitcoms too. Schitts Creek and Kim’s Convenience are popular, but there’s also content from american networks like Animal Control.

I recently saw a video encouraging people to adopt former lab mice. That made me think that the mice that are not adopted out might also be killed even if that is not needed for the study.

Ah, ok that makes sense. That would be wasteful for something that is only useful on the rare occasion.

In that case, a troubleshooting mode might work better, where the user can run tests somewhere in the user settings. Or a button somewhere on the feed that the user can click on to run the analysis on demand.

There are likely programs that organize images by the most common colors, similar to the ones that let you create a collage image with a whole bunch of tiny images

Off the top of my head, such a program could probably achieve this by

1. For each saved RFK image, calculate the average red green and blue values
2. Calculate the average red green and blue values for the food image
3. Look for the closest RFK image

Those images don’t look like AI to me, but rather photos taken under different lighting.

The problem with Tor is that, to some, it can seem a bit intimidating. Sure, you can opt to use the Tor Browser, but that only protects your web browsing, so it’s not global protection on your desktop.

There is, however, a simple app you can use to gain global anonymity/encryption for all of your desktop apps that send data packets beyond your LAN. That app is called Carburetor, and it’s only available for Linux.

I’m also curious how good/safe this is + if usage like this is something that the Tor network can handle.
