Alr first of lemme clear it up, i use Linux so i need something compatible. Ik and have experience with setting up wine and Lutris for windows games so its okay if you suggest smth like that but pls make my life a bit easier :3

So im like fps games like CS:GO/CS2 and i really enjoy that game, the only thing sucks is community and lack of communication. Like for a team based fps, communication is must and ppl don’t talk.

Please suggest me some FREE games to play. Yeah i don’t mind single players too, you can suggest some good ones. Umm i want smth like fps and that stuff. Normal grinding game or story games works too. Tbh im just lost and don’t know what i want lol. Thankies:)

System spec: 8GB ram and RTX 3050

Try 7DaysToDie, it has multiplayer the way you want, with necessary talking. And is like minecraft but realistic.

Classic DOOM has best Linux support of all games in my opinion. Because it was opensourced and plenty of great community-maintained source ports.

Doom has tons of amazing community-made content (WADs) made within last 30 years. Like what other games have mods that feature whole original soundtracks? It also has pretty competitive speedrunning and multiplayer scene. And some very, very difficult levels.

So to play the game you need port and also IWAD files containing levels, textures, etc. Official iwads are not free. So your options are

    1. Buy D1+D2 on steam/gog, grab the iwads, ignore official source port and go play much better community ones
    2. Pirate the iwads. Extremely easy, the files didn’t change since the 90s and have been shared all over the Internet.
    3. First episode of D1 is free. Search for Doom Shareware. It’s packaged in some distros even.
    4. Use the community-made iwad replacements from freedoom project. These are completely foss and also the website has some source port recommendations so probably start with them. I myself started playing DOOM with freedoom :)

My suggestions are all open-source, and therefore free forever.

Beyond All Reason is an amazing RTS. I’ve heard people say it’s one of the best RTS in existence, but I haven’t played any other RTS myself, so I can’t verify that.

Space Station 14, a remake/continuation of Space Station 13, is a top-down multiplayer role-playing game. I like to describe it as “Among Us but in way more complicated”, but it is sooo much more than that. The learning curve is steep, and rounds usually go for at least an hour, but if you want to try out new stuff, give it a go. In my experience, the community is really welcoming of new players.

SuperTuxKart is arguably the definitive open-source MarioCart clone.

SS14 is… an experience. I recommend it to everyone. Probably about 6% of people who try it will stick around, but those people who do stick around are going to lock in on it for the next 1800 hours.

I’ve been playing since the days of SS13 and the BYOND launcher, the Nanotrasen Experience is very near and dear to my heart.

There’s really no way to understand or describe this game without just playing it yourself or watching someone else do so. “Giga AmongUs” is probably one of the closest attempts I’ve seen to describe it accurately. 100 people are dropped on a space station, you all have jobs to perform, and the station will inevitably experience a gruesome and impressive structural failure in about an hour due to one of many, many possible reasons. Get to work and try not to die for as long as possible. Watch out for aliens, space wizards, space cultists, teams of corporate saboteurs from rival companies, communist revolutionaries, and perhaps most importantly and commonly, the sheer ineptitude of your fellow employees.

I so love Space Station 13 and owe it so much.

I don’t trust myself enough to jump into 14 and not neglect everything else in my life lol

BAR beats out TA. Mostly cause it’s made by the people that loved TA enough to keep it going. Used to be BA (beyond annihilation, TA on a new engine) before it was entirely reformed for IP reasons.

Also the venn diagram of top players/devs overlaps quite a bit.

BAR is a Total-like, so it should be up your alley.

I’ve always liked C&C better, so I’m a bigger fan of Combined Arms.

Deadlock. Lots of communication, if you have a good team. Third person shooter MOBA w/ heavy moderation (people actualy get comm banned for being shitty). Will have to go to the discussion page in steam and get an invite tho.

…it’s wild that it’s one of the most played games on steam and still needs an invite. -_-

Take this from another avid FPS enjoyer of decades - it fucking rocks.

Depending on your region and time of day, the communication can be very much what you’d expect from Counter-Strike and Valve games in general, but it’s easier to get people talking like a team. Probably just for now as the game is still invite-only and somewhat niche. Like, you not having played it with the kind of query you’re making the starter post? That’s a genuine surprise.

Fun to learn and master, especially after mostly FPS.

And since we’re here, THE FINALS. Easily the most unique online FPS that is also completely free, their Cashout gamemode being something you just can’t describe through other games - it’s not bomb defusal, it’s not capture-the-flag, it’s not king-of-the-hill, but it’s awesome. Treat yourself to something new and fun, trust another CS player - it’s really good.

Most classic roguelikes are free and many even open source. It is a great genre and if you take time to learn one of them you’ll be at home in any. They are all played in micro-turns so time only advances when you make inputs. That means you can get up at any time without having to pause the game. They have many other features mostly unique to them, too. For instance, in basically all of them everything stays the way you leave it. Items on the ground don’t despawn after a while. Monsters can also pick up and use your items, though.

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is one of my favorite games of all time. You can explore realistic towns and forests after the apocalypse. For instance, you can find most of the items that would be in a real kitchen in an in-game kitchen and use them to craft a staggering amount of stuff. While you’ll mostly see zombie variants, there are enough different horrifying things to encounter that every run is different.

The controls of C:DDA are numerous, though. It may not be a friendly starting point if you have no experience with anything like it. I’m not sure what to recommend for that. Brogue is easy to get into but pretty shallow. Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup might be a decent introduction to the genre.

Last Generation’s combat fixes sound very good at least on paper. I haven’t played it enough to know. The base game is good to play a few times to experience playing as Foodperson.

If you want comms, you need teamplay.

If you want teamplay you go milsim.

I’ve been playing a bit of Arma Reforger lately. Played a bunch of Squad in the past.

Squad has its comms organised better.

If you have MCC on Steam, I recommend Ruby’s Rebalanced Mod for Halo: CE. As a life long Halo player, it felt like a breath of fresh air and reminded me of how I first felt playing it almost 25 years ago.

Or just do what I do and play DOOM and DOOM II every week lol.
