It’s not stupidity, but arrogant selfishness. They know they’re in the wrong, but there’s so rarely ever any consequences for doing it that they just don’t care. “Me, me, me” is simply the American Way.

I’m thoroughly disgusted with this shithole I’m stuck in, can ya tell?

so long as you know there are pricks who would park there from every country. this kind of asshole isn’t isolated to the US.

I do admire countries that have better laws for dealing with these jerks tho.

You also need effective enforcement. In my country in the EU people park in disabled spaces all the time because “it’s just for a minute”. Some even make counterfeit disability cards (you need to have a valid one displayed behind your windscreen). The fines for that are huge but the actual enforcement is nonexistent so unless you call the cops and the driver is willing to actually wait hours for them to arrive there’s nothing you can do.

Also EU. Also sucks, but is a biiiit better. From what I know, it’s city’s guard interest to solve parking issues and they are hungry for them monies. Call them and within 10-15 minutes they gonna arrive and boot every jackass they can get their hands on xD

Only question is if they’ll get there in time for original target

The “just a minute”-people park everywhere, not limited to handicap spaces.

I’ve seen people put on the hazard lights in the middle of a street to get their take away food. I get that sometimes people can be in a hurry and it being almost an emergency for them, but it seems like something that becomes a bad habit.

My neighbour’s landlord throws his car anywhere effectively blocking the dead end road every single time he is there, and he’s not in a hurry. I think he even likes the interaction with people asking him to move his shit. He’s a friendly fellow who likes to talk, but he’s also a selfish asshole, who apparently enjoys having other people being dependent on him to solve the issue that he created.

I once had a job interview in one of his companies, and I could tell that his entitlement oozed through the entire organization.

He doesn’t park badly because he’s a bad driver. He’s a bad person and that makes him bad at parking.

I live in a complex with several buildings and literally hundreds of empty parking spots in the parking lot but I see delivery drivers park squarely in the center of the goddamn street with hazards on, then wander around for 10-15 “just a minute”s going by until they find the right building, pretty much every day. Almost drove straight into a car parked on a blind corner once, that was fun

yeah, that’s the problem here too - lack of enforcement leads shitbags to think they’ll get away with it, and they mostly do.

it’s one of those car-entitlement things that makes me ill if I think about it too much.

Stupid person here, sometimes us handicapped folks just forget to hang the tag or it falls off the dashboard.

Not all of us are in wheelchairs or are even visibly disabled, so I get the frustration when you see someone who looks ‘normal’ walking up to their car in handicap spots.

Please don’t yell at us or give us the stare. I’ve had people yell at me for using it, even with a valid tag. I have chronic pain, and just want to make doing groceries a little easier.

Do they expect a wheelchair driver to hop out and remove the chain before they park?

Here’s another. If two people are parked like this and the spaces are tight:

    _____________
    | F | | F |
    | B | | B |

Then you should reverse into the space between them, like so:

    _____________
    | F | B| F |
    | B | F| B |

so your passenger door is close to the passenger door of the car next to you and there’s a bigger gap between your car’s driver’s door and the third car’s driver’s door.

Or like this if you drive on the wrong side of the road:

    _____________
    | F |B | F |
    | B |F | B |

Intellectual Disability is a disability, but it’s really considered quite regressive to talk about it that way.

Autism is a mental disability. Most autistic people can drive as well as neurotypicals.

But I agree that nobody should be driving a car, because cars are bad.
