I try not to, but sometimes I have to for dietary reasons. I have to choose between going somewhere that has nothing I can eat, ordering a drink or a side, saying “I’m not hungry,” and eating at home, or risking peeving others with the audacity to not consume meat.

That’s fair. I usually keep quiet and don’t eat, ordering a drink or maybe fries. I can understand and I’m glad you speak up for yourself though.
