Per Wikipedia: “Vegetables are edible parts of plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food. This original meaning is still commonly used, and is applied to plants collectively to refer to all edible plant matter, including flowers, fruits, stems, leaves, roots, and seeds.”
Fun fact - there are also non-edible fruits (such as horsenettle “wild tomato”, which is poisonous), so it’s more a Venn diagram thing!
