“I want them dead because that way I can live” -every Republican calling for Democrat murders right now.

“Our violence is justified, the other is not.”

    Said everybody.

One is violence born from irrational hatred. The other is violence born from self-defence. If you can’t tell the difference, there’s nothing more to be said to you.

How does a trans person endanger a republican? Or a gay? Or an autistic? Or an inmigrant? How? Is there a trans cabal trying to make every kid transition? Is there a gay secret society trying to make everyone gay so we go extinct? No, no, it has to be the autistic illuminati, right?

Meanwhile, republican nazis have the ice gestapo, rfk jr is talking about sending autistic people to “farms” and trying to make trans as miserable as possible. But hey, bOtH SidEs!!!1!11!!!1

I support trans rights and gay rights as human rights, and the right for everyone to be left alone to do what they like as long as it doesnt harm others, and that you are the sovereign of your own body-- no one gets to tell you how to be or who to have consensual sex with. But its are a bad marketing method to counter republican philosophy, and to get people to rally around it as a key point-- we should really stick with human rights as our attack strategy on that one.

Authoritarians choose gay and trans rights as their preferred battleground to attack human rights and push authoritarian outcomes-- because it works. We should Insist on universal human rights and the rights to be left alone to your own choices. No one really disagrees with that. Thats how we win gay and trans rights, and onto civil rights and privacy too. We draw a line at insisting everyone stay out of the business of others unless invited, and when people charge into your bedroom with their ideas, they should be treated as home invaders. Authoritarians love that castle doctrine stuff, why dont we piggyback on that to get them out of our lives?

Right, so long as those choices aren’t causing needless harm.

No one really disagrees with that.

Uh, yes they do, and they’re actively killing us, hence the need for defense.

For example, I wish Kirk had stopped spreading hate while he was alive. But he didn’t. Now that he is dead, he can’t do that anymore. This is a good thing that potentially saved a lot of lives.

The rhetoric to justify violence is the same either way, which is the point.

I’m not making any claims at all about who the victims are. Only pointing out the fact that all sides claim to be victims and then use that claim to justify their violence.

It is interesting that doing so here immediately results in vitriolic accusations of being a Nazi, however. I wonder what I’d get called if I said the same thing on Truth Social.

You keep repeating “both sides” ignoring completely that there’s one side causing violence and another one responding to that violence. That is disingenuous in the best case, and dishonest in the worst.

Do you understand that republican nazis here could stop all the violence calls against them by simply stopping their persecution of minorities and “non white” people? Do you understand that the other side (aka: left-wing people, minorities and, in general, “non white” people) would not need to defend themselves against fascists if those fascists weren’t trying to kill them? “Both sides” is just a way of equalling violence between a victim and a bully and shifting blame to the victim. You are doing that and, if you say that nazis and their victims are equal… it kinda makes you a nazi.

Just because the rhetoric might have similarities in some very narrow hypothetical does not make these things equivalent.

I would recommended reading Popper’s paradox on tolerance, too…

Yeah, Popper’s pretty obscure - I probably haven’t ever heard of him, and his arguments definitely aren’t misquoted and misunderstood on Lemmy on a daily basis.

But it’s not even remotely the same. You can’t make something true be just repeating it you simpleton.

Man, once you understand how cause and effect works, you may actually eventually understand how things work.

1- One side advocates for killing people I love

2- I advocate removing the thing that wants to remove my loved ones

3- Dumbasses think both sides are the same.

When your brain fully develops, you’ll understand that point 2 cannot exist without point 1. Without something to drive the need for violence, violence won’t happen. But if one side has to us v them to get and stay in power, are you expecting the other side to roll over and accept death?

Spoiler: yeah, you’re blaming the victims for wanting to defend themselves against random violence by bigots

You can stop with the nazi gaslighting attempts. That fake “both-sides” shit doesn’t fool progressives.

      All conservatives are pathological liars.
