Unfortunately this extremely correct line of thinking and practice is only performed by the super vast minority of drivers. People are absolutely stupid anymore.
I even take it further, if I make a misstake and end up in bad spot, but everything turned out ok in the end, say if I blow a stop sign or something similar, it has happened, though it is rare.
Then I will do either of two things:
If it is remotely practical, I will drive back and drive the exact scenario again, while paying extra attention to why I made the misstake and what I need to work on, I will do this multiple times to make sure I get it right.
If going back ins not an option, I will make a mental note of checking out the location in Google Street View and look at the signs, marking and general situation while recalling the situation, to try and investigate what went wrong.
I do my best to try and learn from my own misstakes.
