    That’s the history of enshitification in a nutshell (sorry to people who hate the term, it’s just apt).

    Engineers had some social power in these institutions for a brief moment. Sadly, we weren’t able to get to any kind of class consciousness before the space was enclosed by capital, not even basic trade unionism.

    All they had to do was make some of us millionaires and the rest basically comfortable until our skills were devalued enough that we’d lost our bargaining power as workers.

    Anyway, best time to plant a tree 20 years ago and all that…
