Yeah… For the most part, the ones who’ve actually been in the shit tend to be real quiet about it, not really wanting to talk about it even if asked directly.
The ones who will talk your ear off about their feats of badassery … always turns out that they’re somebody who flunked out of basic training, or somebody who spent 4 years shipping boxes back and forth in supply.
I just remember all of those ww2 veterans that never said a word, even to their families. I have so much respect for those men for managing to shove something like that down and continuing to care for their families. I don’t think I could do that if I’d seen what they saw.
