I started to feel that a large portion of news outlets are just press releases republishing firms.

Which make me ask the following: why is there is no links aggregators that just give you a small summary and link to the original press release?

It’s the most common sense thing that should happen, yet I am not aware of a single one that does that.

Why is no one doing that?

RSS is not a comprehensive solution in this case.

Think for example about us goverment, there is agencies that does not provide RSS feeds and even the ones that do are too many to follow locally.

That is where what I am talking about come as the most common sense solution here.

To answer your question here, AI can provide a brief summary and can even help in the selection of press releases.

IMO, the aggregator seems like the wrong end to apply AI to. I would think the companies issuing press releases would use AI to write the releases and publish to all the platforms they want to reach.

I would rather my aggregator simply deliver what is served, and for any summarizing to be conducted and vetted by the source.

That is literally the job of the Associated Press. They republish press-releases across publications. At this point, most press releases are written by AI at least in part, so I’m not sure a further summary would be helpful.
