According to current and former DEA agents and records reviewed by The Associated Press, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration allowed hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills to hit the streets of New Mexico from 2023 to 2025.
Fent was the reaction to young Americans discovering that the Drug War was bullshit. We all discovered that when used responsibly, we could have weed. We could have psychedelic experiences. All the bad shit that was going to happen was happening because of bad people, and it wasn’t the drugs that changed those people.
Fent adulteration was an attack on all people who dared to oppose the law and get high. It was a genocide against defiers, in the same way that crack was used against black people.
I’ve known a lot of junkies, including close friends and family members, and addiction definitely changed them (and one of the drugs that has that effect is alcohol).

There were also economic incentives for the suppliers. Just another case study of capitalism taking its course. But I suppose it’s another debate about “made it happen” vs “stodd by and let it happen.” I favor the latter because all it requires is inaction from the authorities, and if there’s one thing they know how to do, it’s inaction.
