“You know, this is the only commencement speech that I’m giving this year and so I’ve watched a few highlights of graduation speeches where this or that corporate leader will discuss artificial intelligence, AI, and be met with literal boos,” Vance said as he wrapped up his remarks.
“Now, you can’t boo me. I’m the vice president of the United States,” he added, drawing laughs.
that’s pretty cringe

Okay but did they boo or no ?
They didn’t, but they also didn’t cheer. The room was dead silent from the clip I watched.
If you tell me I’m not allowed to boo… thats fine. But you cant make me clap.
What if your commanding officer orders you to clap?
When I don’t like something, but feel I must clap for politey, which I do not always, I do like a pretend clap, I do the motion but with no sound. If I like something I clap vigorously.

I was thinking more of:
CO: You WILL clap after the speech!
Airmen after the speech:
A single, perfectly timed clap, then silence.
