Yes so true. So many people look to the law to tell them what is right and wrong. Clearly authoritarian because the law does not decide what is right, since the law is created by a minority of the population. But people look to the law to decide what is right because the system has destroyed their ability to think for themselves
Also propaganda. Americans has always believed America was the good guys, so how could our laws be evil?
Nailed it
The law is rule of power. Some people prefer the simplicity of might makes right. Often they benefit from the status quo, who’d guess
All that is required for the triumph of organized evil is that the good remain separated, and do nothing.
(apocryphal bastardized version of something Edmund Burke apparently didn’t directly say, who cares, the idea is correct)
This is also a good example of the social construction of crime.
I like to phrase it as “legality and morality are only loosely correlated”
What are the equivalents today?
One of many good answers.
ICE detention centers
broad form deeds
resource extraction in the Congo
There aren’t any everything is fine the world is just and all our authorities are righteous
Eating other sentient beings.
Just because someone’s not as smart as you or has a different body than you doesn’t mean it’s okay to kill and eat them.
Based answer.
Omni leftists are so quick to abandon the same guiding principals they hold to as soon as it affects what’s on their plate.
Thanks for taking the downvotes. I was gonna comment that otherwise
