Summary

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) stands by his decision to interrupt Trump’s joint address to Congress, stating “I would have to do it again” despite facing censure.

Green protested proposed Medicaid cuts, warning “people will suffer and die” if the program is cut.

Fellow Democrats joined him in singing “We Shall Overcome” during the censure reading. Green called his actions a “peaceful protest” against presidential “incivility.”

Critics note apparent double standards, as Republicans like MTG previously interrupted Biden without similar consequences. Rep. Boebert’s comment about Green “shaking his pimp cane” has been criticized for racial overtones.

I don’t remember if it was a general session, but the floor often remains pretty empty during caucusing, which is most of the time.
