Also I’ve always found this look repulsive not because of anything to do with cultural associations but because it triggers my disease avoidance instincts. The same way you don’t go sticking your face in roadkill, you don’t go kissing someone that looks like they’re suffering from a severe facial or mouth infection.
It looks like the bloating associated with sub-dermal skin infections to me, which let me just say it’s probably the most horrific thing I’ve ever witnessed. Poor bastard had his skin tear right in front of me too fucken horrid.
