I don’t really get how frame generation works, but at what point are you extrapolating so much that it gets out of sync with the gameplay? Surely there’s a limit…

The one in thinking of most recently was Avowed. Really didn’t care for the writing in that one. It felt like a big step down to me. Ironically the action game parts felt better than previous obsidian games I’d played.

100% agree on positioning. I think a big issue with that is also that most captions are generated now as far as I can tell, and sometime don’t even get the words or spelling right. Positioning being added in a world where they won’t even have a human check it seems unlikely 😑

Tbh I don’t think obsidian is that good anymore either.

I keep hearing things are mixed for the theater, but I went to the theater to see the odyssey the other day for the first time in a while, and it had the same problem! Sound mixing is trash these days…

I actually feel the opposite. I know the old ones you were talking about and those do suck, but on streaming apps the subtitles are often in the way of things in the show. Even worse, I’ve seen subtitles go over the top of baked in subtitles in the show, sometimes obscuring text with worse text. The most extreme example being a character speaking another language in the show, the show has baked in subtitles for it, and the streaming app subtitles cover it up and say “speaking Chinese”… Yes I’ve really seen that happen more than once. 🤦‍♂️

See that last bit is what I wonder though. If you run the same prompt through ai it’ll give you a different result every time. Not to mention since it’s a game the input will be changing constantly per player…

The biggest question I have about it is whether it’s consistent or not. Will each player get their own different ai filter over the top, or did they somehow “bake it on” so it’s always the same result?

It’s true, and I think a big factor is they have a genuinely brilliant business model.

Basically they sell everything in bulk and roughly at cost, and make their whole profit from membership fees. This is brilliant because it creates upsides for all 3 parties involved:

• the consumer gets cheap items
• the brands selling things get large bulk sales negotiated in advance
• Costco gets a stable and extremely popular store
