Bingo. This was my take before I met my wife and early in our relationship. When it came time to talk about the future and we discussed marriage I asked what she wanted. For my part, I told her that I didn’t need a piece of paper from the government or a magic ceremony to commit myself to her fully.
She wanted a wedding and marriage and I wanted to give that to her. It was immediate family only, at home, with a retired judge performing a ceremony we wrote.
From a legal perspective it can be immensely more complicated long term and will almost certainly be financially more disadvantageous within the US system if you’re American to not be married.

As someone who works in tech I’d agree with you. AI is a tool for humans to use that can help make tasks easier and lighten workload but it won’t replace them.

Instead I’ll get a bunch of green onions and let them soak in the vinegar, then I suck the vinegar out of the green onions and enjoy the onion itself as a crunchy snack after.
LilB0kChoy@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you feel when someone apologises too much?2·15 days agoMy wife behaves very similarly. Often she apologizes for things that I don’t even register. It’s a difference in how we grew up. I’ve mostly settled on ignoring it now but early on I encouraged her to think about who she’s apologizing for, and if she’s doing it for me I encouraged her to stop. Not only do I not need it, most of the time I don’t even notice whatever minor transgression occurred she thinks needs to be apologized for.
Now if she does it the apologies mostly go unnoticed too because it’s not for or about me, and if it’s what she’s comfortable doing then that’s ok.
LilB0kChoy@lemm.eeto politics @lemmy.world•Not Even Republican Voters Like Republican Health Care Ideas: Poll1·7 months agopolling shows most republican voters are *not* in favor of extreme abortion restrictions. They want abortion up to a certain point and for certain reasons.
So those polled voters indicate what they want in a poll.
But when they’re told the other side is murdering full-norn babies, they go for what seems to them like the lesser evil.
Yet those same voters elect (choose) the politicians (their representatives who speak for them) who want something different.
Again I ask why a distinction should be made, in regards to voters and politicians, when discussing party. Seems to me like both groups, voters and politicians, say one thing and do another.
As Maya Angelou once said, “When someone tells you who they are, believe them.”
LilB0kChoy@lemm.eeto politics @lemmy.world•Not Even Republican Voters Like Republican Health Care Ideas: Poll0·7 months agoPoliticians are the elected representatives of the voters. If the politicians want something their voters don’t then why are they being elected.
From a purely political perspective both Republicans and Democrats are why we’re in the situation we’re in today.
Sure the Republican Party is objectively worse but it’s like having one pile of shit the size of a house and one the size of a car. Just because one is a bigger pile doesn’t change the fact that they’re both shit.
