These things are especially evil in Australia where consumer protections are stronger and usually exceed the stated warranty.

I’ve had this conversation many times:

“Can I interest you in an extended warranty with that?”

“No thanks, it’s no better than consumer protection”

“Fair enough. Had to ask”
