With the recent news about Authy blocking access for GrapheneOS, I’m looking for ways to export my 2FA before it locks me out. From what I can tell, the previous methods of using the Desktop app no longer work.

I just went through that. Authy no longer allows you to export 2FA. That firmly solidified my decision to leave their service.

I had to go to each website that had 2FA, go in and disable 2FA, and then add it again using my 2FA app.

Wow, that is awful. Make it as hard as you can for a person to leave your service?

      I need to switch.

You can actually get an encrypted copy of your tokens form authy using a GDPR claim. I did it earlier this year. They took a while since it appears that it was the first time they did that.

I haven’t actually managed to decrypt them yet, but that’s mainly because I’m lazy.

But honestly they are not wrong. You probably shouldn’t reuse 2FA tokens. For security the old ones should be revoked and new ones should be issued.

Yes, that’s been their stance for some time but there have been workarounds that others have come up with. I’m interested in seeing if anyone is aware of one that still works.

I imagine my situation isn’t unique in that I have a lot of stored MFA and figured I’d ask so that if a working solution does exist it may also be shared with anyone else in a similar situation.

Sadly this is probably impossible at this point. Before their whole fiasco discontinuing the desktop app there was a procedure I did where I was able to download a super old version of the desktop app and use Chrome to get into the dev interface (or something like that) of the app, then use a script someone made to export everything. Maybe if you search around you can find some way to do this with the mobile app, but I am not optimistic.

I migrated away myself earlier this year, had to do it manually. Loving 2FAS on iOS now. It has import/export capabilities for the future, too.
