A longtime hero of mine from when I first started learning to code. RIP.
Imagine being a cutting edge scientist/programmer, doing something unbelievably difficult with a team of other scientists, and advancing humanity.
What an accomplishment.
Then living long enough for asshats to think it didn’t happen
Damn, what an icon she was.
“who’s software helped land Apollo 11 on the moon”
Sounds a bit reductive, she designed the software.
She led the team that designed the software. While she definitely deserves recognition for her work, she didn’t do it all herself.
It’s accurate. The software needed hardware, human operators, rockets, fuel, astronauts, funding, management… in order to land on the moon. It wasn’t software alone that lifted guys off the earth and transported them to the moon. There was at least one other person involved.
A better word choice would have been “critical” (as was everything else you noted).
“Helped” is reductive, implying that it wasn’t necessary, just helpful.
There was at least one other person involved.
Big if true
Fake news
RIP to a legend. 90 is a nice, long lifetime.
It’s a hard day for rain.
