I have to buy at least the mid-grade that nobody usually buys. I live in the mountains so regular is 85 instead of 87 but isn’t any cheaper. My car’s manual explicitly states high altitude areas may have lower than 87 and to not put anything lower than 87 into this vehicle. The jump from regular to the next grade hasn’t been 10 cents in quite some time, more like 30 here. Then another 30 cents to premium.

Interesting, what model car? I have for years sworn I remembered seeing 85 out west, glad to know I’m not crazy, on that count at least.
My understanding is it’s basically all of Ford’s ecoboost motors as they’re turbos.
They only call for 87 but have this section in the owners manual.
