Paying workers on time presents an opportunity cost. The penalties have to outweigh whatever they might make by investing the ill-retained funds. (I have no idea whether that’s the case with DoorDash here, but I’d hazard a guess that some executives still think it was worth it.)
Yes yes I know. The point is to discourage this from happening again. No penalty means no risk to trying, hefty penalty means discouraged from happening. They didnt make billions from this action so they lost money on their risk.
There were millions in penalties. Saying nothing happens is ridiculous, strong regulations and penalties remove these issues. As seen here.
