I asked my mom if she watched the news today and she said she didn’t. I told her something I heard on the news. She then told me she had just heard that talked about on the news.

Personally I go through spurts of hyper engagement and non engagement so I wouldn’t really say I pay attention to the news bc I’m not consistent or deliberate
Maybe it’s an old person thing, but “watching” the news means sitting down and watching a network television program.
We don’t consider online articles or Tiktok “watching the news”
Listening and reading are both valid ways to aquire information. Often reading especially is significantly faster than watching something as well.
