“Wants to”. They are just testing the waters for a response.

I’ve been telling people for years that Apple is just better at marketing. They sell this image of better security and everything, but they are just big tech with a bigger smile and make up than the others.

You trust Apple? You fell for the lies.

This just pushes me closer to Motorola and GrapheneOS when it launches in a year or so.

Fuck Apple and seriously fuck Google.

Simplest way to delete their userbase. They’re the last big Tech company that still has a semblance of respect for user privacy, if any.

Semblance. Are you saying that there are literally no privacy features? Privacy is a sliding scale, don’t gatekeep some certain level of privacy as “legitimate” and call everything else below that line fake, that’s disingenuous.

Compared to Google, Microsoft, etc, they are more respecting of privacy than other big tech companies.

So what? Google also has privacy features.

Doesn’t mean they actually follow through with them.

For apple, them saying they are privacy-friendly is nothing more than marketing. What happens behind the scenes we can’t know because they aren’t transparent. They are already using your data to recommend you their services. And now they will do so to train their AI.

At least Google is open about it.

Apple respects privacy so much that they even operate in China. Google doesn’t want to operate in china because they hate privacy.

Yes because they’re sooooo transparent about how they handle you data. And they’ve NEVER lied before riiiiight?

It’s not that they’re fake for not being private enough, they’re fake because of their long history of dishonesty and deceptive marketing. Or would you like to ask them what “current competing hardware” means on their next press release chart?

Apple was a cult of personality run by a snake oil salesman until jobs died. Now it’s a shell of that, run by a board of investors. Why do people on communities like this, an ostensibly ant-capitalist community, still feel the need to defend them? It’s always so weird to me.

Again, just because you have some issues does not mean they are not more privacy focused than companies like Google. Last I checked, Google reads your emails to use in ads which they also sell. Apple does neither. I’m not going to go down the list tit for tat, it’s well established.

Also, privacy and capitalism are not mutually exclusive…? You can get support for privacy across many different backgrounds.

I don’t trust them. Point blank. I don’t trust that they do or don’t do what they claim. They have been caught in bald faced lies numerous times before.

I’m not saying Google is better, I’m just calling bullshit on their claim of privacy. I don’t believe for a second that they aren’t monetizing your data and just calling it some newspeak term they made up to weasel out of admitting it.

Why do you feel the need to defend them?

They know people lack better alternatives, since all the other tech companies are doing the same.

Paywalled. Archived link. While I have no love for Apple, and have audited their privacy claims for this and other privacy communities over the years, adding an opt-in toggle to allow anonymized data sharing for improved service does not seem like a “backflip” in privacy, any more than other user feedback channels would be.

But go ahead and downvote because I didn’t just roll with your Apple bad narrative, silly munchkins

I’d only have to explain how that opt in is predatory, to be understood, to an apple apologist like you

Did you mean to compliment Apple apologists and me or did you mean something else?
