      There is also a lot of organic material in the soil, and when the bacteria works on it, it releases co2. A reuters article a few years back interviewed this scientist working in siberia and said that just in the siberian permafrost there was 2x the co2 currently in the atmosphere that would be released when thawed. Idk the timeframe on that with partial thaws and freezes.

      But it could be catastrophic and cause a runaway effect.
