Sounds more like you hate competitive rating systems that can give you a fleeting high of accomplishment, only to take it all away in an instant. Chess can certainly be played without rating systems, though I don’t know what the options are like these days if you’re depending on doing it via online systems. Lot of digital stuff now shoves leaderboards/rankings into everything when it doesn’t really add anything and can even detract.
