Florida evangelist Whitney Lynn uses most of her flights as an opportunity to share her faith, a trend that was featured in a recent Washington Post article. On Thursday, she said, her sermon got her kicked off a San Diego-bound jet before it even took off from Orlando International Airport. She documented the removal in a series of videos she posted on social media, one of which had racked up 3 million views on Instagram by Friday afternoon.

    It’s not.

The commandment about taking Yhwh’s name in vain is about taking oaths you know you’ll break. It was common back then to use the name of some deity or your ancestors who would - in theory- punish you for breaking that oath.

Really, the only thing we still do this for is swearing in- like for an oath of office or for giving testimony in court (the whole “put your hand on the bible” thing. This is invoking god as an enforcer of oaths and god ain’t interested in that.)
