We have one area in my city, which is now already pretty old, that took a very modern approach but now outdated to what they are currently doing.
Before it seemed like the answer of the future, but now it seems like a way to get people to agree with something worse and less sensible.
I’ll explain the situation: they built these really awesome modern decent sized appartment buildings on a big area that were placed seemingly in a random layout (visually appealing unlike the old timey squared everything, the layout that is). These were really cool buildings that had that modern feel to it with lovely colours and some visually interesting shapes.
All parking was moved underground so not a car is in sight, it’s damn near in the city center so everything is a short walk away but you still had the ability to own a car. It has 3 entrances for cars to get to the parking that is underneath the building you’re living in, so still close to home.
Ever since they haven’t built anything like this, heck they built casual old fashioned style apartments that are tiny and crazy expensive, combined with row homes that used to be affordable but now cost over half a million even tho the surface area is still considered small especially compared to American standards.
They recently started teasing “modern buildings” but those are nowhere near these absolutely gorgeous perfect solution to society without taking too much away from the people.
These new ones have no parking space, at all. They cost an arm and a leg to rent and to make matters worse you share the laundry room with 60 people and every 5 studios share a kitchen and toilet. Yeah that’s right…studio appartements, a single fucking room for your whole ass life to be squeezed into. You need 2 adult minimum wages for the right to get these single person living spaces which you share with God knows who.

I absolutely hate it.
