Elon is a monstrous turd who has certainly killed plenty of people with his actions but I really doubt those numbers. The only time I’ve heard people cite these things about USAID they’re based on projections from how many people were receiving aid, not actual, recorded deaths. From what I understand, some of the void left by USAID has been filled by other international and local organizations so those projections are extremely flawed and inflated.

I’m sure there have been and will continue to be some deaths as a direct result of abruptly halting aid like this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the broad result was actually a soft power vacuum that enabled China to casually dance their way into being the good guy for millions of people, paving the way for good international relations in regions that were otherwise gonna be hard as fuck for them to enter. Now their foot is in the door.
