Until it’s Ed Zitron roasting a mute immobile Sam Altman over a literal flame of shadows for hours on end, it’s not justice being served.

z3rOR0ne@lemmy.mlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?1·12 days agoYeah, I solved that by wrapping the pointy end in electrical tape. Works out pretty well.
z3rOR0ne@lemmy.mlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?4·13 days agoEven though I don’t regularly use it, I’m glad I have a p38 can opener on my keychain. Just in case I end up in a survival situation, it’s good to have alongside a good keychain bottle opener. Obviously not as good as a leatherman, but for under $20, yeah, these two are worth it.
The witching hour (usually around 3AM).

I even have to compile it myself because it’s daemon mode uses systemd on Linux and I dont run a distro that uses systemd and had to modify the source code slightly. I do run it in managed mode, essentially invoking it from a startup script when my window manager starts up.
Long story short, what you encountered might have been related to how it integrates with the init system and you might try and run it directly from a startup script. Simple test is to just try and install the latest version and see if you have the same issue.

Its not Linux specific but its got so many uses. You can even use it with bash scripts to have essentially alises/text shortcuts for short or massive amounts of text. I use it for so many code snippets and template texts in Neovim and other applications that involve typing.

I would recommend Devuan, but it just wraps SysV in runit as a service manager rather than just using runit as init.
Gentoo has options for systemd or openrc. You can get runit or s6 to work on it if you’re pretty familiar with how /sbin/init works,or so I’ve ascertained from researching, but have not done this yet.
Void is very interesting as it uses runit and also uses musl instead of glibc. I don’t think it has quite as many packages as Artix though due to lack of AUR, and I can only estimate that the use of musl instead of glibc necessitates the need for some interesting workarounds from time to time.
I use Artix with runit. Have been daily driving this for around 6 years now and have been very happy with it.
If I were to use anything else I’d go through the trouble of installing Gentoo and configure it to use s6 init. Just to get more granular control.

z3rOR0ne@lemmy.mlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A genie grants you a wish at random: you're guaranteed to win your next argument. Who do you argue with?2·1 month agoDefinitively? Like everyone agrees I won the argument and it causes anyone who witnessed it to rethink their stance on the topic and actually fucking change the way they think and behave? An occurrence so rare I’d might as well play the lottery?
If that were true… I guess I’d argue Donald Trump about addressing and curbing Climate Change…and second choice would be arguing Elon Musk on the merits of developing actual empathy.
Genie wishes…pipe dreams in a lamp, lol. Anyways, thanks for inducing a small indulgence in some fantasy.

z3rOR0ne@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would life be like if reincarnation was a proven thing and we could remember all our past lives?6·2 months agoLol, I’ve done this exact thought experiment. Heck I practically brainstormed a version of Eternals in my head once, but instead of being Gods posing as humans, they were mortal Reincarnated Individuals who knew everyone/everything was reincarnated, but what gave them advantages in this world was that they remembered their past lives, and could use that accumulated knowledge for good and for ill.
Its a cool little concept that somebody will turn into a TV series/Movie/Video Game at some point I’m sure.
TLDR; I’m vehemently agnostic.
I believe that if there is a “God” entity, that it is incomprehensible and not worth attempting to understand.
I also don’t believe in an anthropocentric “God”, in that “God” doesn’t inherently value nor not value humans as somehow special nor damned. I also don’t believe “God” cares nor doesn’t care about humans or existence.
I also don’t believe in inherent meaning, nor that there is some form of divine justice. Those are human lenses through which we interpret the world, and are unlikely to apply (at least in the same way as a human) to the supposed viewpoint of an eternal omniscient omnipotent entity that created the universe and will supposedly one day close the door on time and its own existence.
In short, I’m one bleak motherfucker and it doesn’t matter if “God” exists or not. Either way, I don’t get to survive death. What is eternal about me is inherently not a part of me. It is mortality, true mortality, mortality of the consciousness and the ego and the individual that defines the individual. When that dies, "God” or not, either way there is no individual to somehow surpass death.
The funding of ICE doesn’t mean that the military, ICE, FBI, etc. outnumber the American civilian population, obviously. Now, this doesn’t mean that the American citizens are united nor organized nor ideologically aligned, also obviously. And yeah, this is Nazi America. What a lot of doomers fail to point out is that Nazi Germany didn’t last forever. And neither will Nazi America. The tragedy of Nazism is multifaceted, but one of those many tragedies is if you just want to live a regular life, you don’t have a choice but to fight, either for or against fascism. They force you to choose a side, and then you’re in it.
And yeah, the time for mass death on the streets of America instigated by its own government on its own people is here. It is already happening. It has sadly been happening for far longer than most think. It’s just a lot more overt now. People make fun of the Leopard’s eating right wingers faces. But truthfully, if you’re surprised by any of what’s going on right nowin the US or any capitalist country, then the Leopard has been eating all of our faces.
The Military will for the most part comply and murder, torture, imprison, and enslave their own mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters etc.
And then there will just simply be one too many deaths, one too many suicides, one too many rapes, one too many genocides.
And yeah, more violence will ensue as there is a purge of fascists, and hopefully, this time, unlike after the civil war, we hang the traitors, topple their monuments, and defecate on their graves.
And then climate catastrophes will wipe out all humans except those that live closer to the poles. And then we will revert back to a more primitive way of life for better and provably far worse. And perhaps then the anthropocene will mercifully end, and humans will finally just go fucking extinct.
So it will all be not okay and then really not okay and throughout most of the ensuing century and a half, most, if not all, of us will die.
The thing most people are struggling with right now is that they haven’t transitioned from the privileged viewpoint that the big question in life is choosing “how do you want to live?”, when the only actual choice you have is “how do you preserve your choice of how you are going to die?”
Essentially, the only choice you have is to preserve your right to find your hill to die on, then stare death in the fucking face as you go. Cuz eventually even that choice will be taken from you, so take advantage now like its a fire sale on the last remaining freedom.
Enjoy all these positive vibes.
